I’m currently building an army that is fully converted to represent a Renegade Mechanicus cult that specialises in robotics for which I choose to use the Necron codex for the army as it was the best codex suited for an army of robots. You can check out the production log in the link below…

RENEGADE MECHANICUS CULT ARMY LOG

I’m looking to include all of my conversions in my army whilst still keeping the list effective. So lets get to the list…

HQ
200 – Necron Lord: Staff Of Light, Resurrection Orb & Veil Of Darkness.

(He supports the warriors and in objective missions teleport warriors squads to objectives)

ELITE
280 – 10 Immortals

(Support The Warriors & Deep Strike with the Lord)

TROOPS
180 – 10 Warriors
180 – 10 Warriors
180 – 10 Warriors

(Claim Objectives and advance in cover)

FAST ATTACK
150 – 3 Destroyers
150 – 3 Destroyers

(Flank and shoot down tanks and heavy infantry)
60 – 5 Scarab Swarms
(Intercept and hold up an assault unit or contest an objective on the last turn)

HEAVY SUPPORT
110 – 2 Tomb Spyders

(Allow my army to split into two, and counter charge enemy assault units)

Total Pts: 1490
Total No: 54
P.Out No: 12
Kill Pts: 10

What do you think to it then?

you forgot the monolith, you know the near Indestructible ubertank? If your going to say points are an issue, then yes they are as necrons are at their best around 2k points.

He wants to play this as a Mechanicus Cult, not Necrons. A giant Monolith would be, i dunno, xenos? Couldn't really do that could he?

Not bad, I don't know a lot about Necrons though. You have your scoring units, your reserves/support, your heavy weaponry, and your little fast things to be mean and make the enemy not get his objectives when you get yours. Only problem is your KP amount. In my average list, I have around 8 KP. Giving the opponent easier targets and KP isn't a good idea.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

Nah man, no monolith. They aren't that good anyway.

The list looks pretty good dude, and I saw the conversions. Nice. Nothing much to change except perhaps lowering the immortal and warrior count and getting more destroyers.

Not really that hard to convert a monolith to mechanicus as you can see the rough build below, I'll be adding the monolith in 1750pt games along with another scarab swarm.

(you can see the full size model in my production log)

The hardest to destroy vehicle in the game that lowers your necron count by a lot, can be ignored and doesn't really have much going for it in the firepower department (wow, a 12'' D6 HB and a S9 AP3 blast... o wait, cover saves)? Yes.

You might have trouble without any heavy destroyers. That S9 is going to be mighty useful against tanks, since you can't glance them to death anymore. Maybe convert the regular destroyers to Heavies? You also might want to do two units of 5 Immortals, so that if one squad gets wiped they can still come back.

I'm thinking of ditching a destroyer and immortal to upgrade all the remaining destroyers to Heavies, what do you think?

I don't know anyone who runs a monolith for the firepower. The portal is amazing. It's a tournament staple, and the winning lists prove it.

What winning lists? Necrons haven't won a serious tournament since 5th came out. I daresay even RTT tournament wins are rare, at least largish ones. Haven't seen it in CA or CO, anyway, maybe it's different in your area.

A very good call. For thier points they are just so exceedingly effective at what they do.

Two squads of one heavy destroyer, works best. Keep them together (but obviously not together..avoiding death from things like h.bolters) and with thier cover saves/T5/turbo-boost potentail & wbb.. You basicaly have to throw a very disportionate amount of point-worth firepower to take them out otherwise you will loose armor to them.

Too be fair.. it's all worked out quite well!
