~~Important: This is just my opinion, and how I play MY Tau...make your own agruments just not with me. I don't want to argue.~~~

Well, you will want a few more crisis suits and probably another hammerhead for a good start. And the best bit of advice I can offer on Tau......

...be prepared to loose at first. At one point in time I have had every army but chaos and by far the hardest for me to come to tems with was my Tau. They play in their own way - not really like any other army.

Their fast - but not nearly as fast as Eldar.

They have decent saves - but not nearly high enough to ignore cover.

And don't bother with hand to hand. You will get slaughtered. Avoid it as much as possible. Use your kroot, but use them as counter chargers (with several hounds they seem to do well for me in this capacity) but DO NOT go off charing willy-nilly with them. They won't last. You need to get in, finish it, and get out with Kroot.

Oh, and your drones are your throw away KP's. I use mine to screen my troops to give them that 4+ cover. Works pretty well because their JSJ. Move them behond the firing squads in Movement, Shoot, Move them back in front in Assault.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with them.

I think in 5th edition you'd be hard pressed to win with tau without some more mobile troops. Which means you need Devilfish, probably two.

With this pile of models I'd say you could play a reasonable 1000 point game and have fun/ kinda compete if you can proxy the hammerhead as a devilfish:

HQ:
1 shas'el commander with plasma/missile/targeting array/HWMT - 97

Elite:

3x stealth suits, one with fusion - 92

1x crisis suit with plasma/missile or plasma/fusion and Multitracker - 62?

troops:

9x fire warriors, shas'ui with markerlight, bonding knife - 115

9x fire warriors, shas'ui with markerlight, bonding knife - 115

9x fire warriors, shas'ui with markerlight, bonding knife - 115

9x fire warriors, shas'ui with bonding knife devilfish with disruption pod/flechette dischargers - 200

12x kroot - 84

HS:

2x broadsides, team leader with 2 drones (shield drones proxied if possible) and target lock, ASS - 200

This is a bit more than 1000 points but you get the idea. Having that mobile squad in a devilfish and the kroot outflanking is what will help you at least try to control objectives if you want to play some games now.

If you're going to add anything to this army, I'd say you first need more armor (say 2x devilfish and 1x hammerhead) and then crisis suits, and then perhaps kroot hounds.

yeh that list would counter my bigest problem i had with chaos but any tau list would cover that problem ill have to try it out and get more devil fish some hounds and a hammer head from my birthday money

ive only seen tau in action once whats a good strategy to use with this army sit back and shoot and have the devil fish squad go for objective last turn?
