Soo.. I was wondering if someone knows a super duper competitive tournament codex marines list for 1500 pnts. I heard something about either Kantor or Shrike being the top and I was just curious.

Even though i think it's kind of boring I've seen a lot of people take kantor with sternguard troop spam and a bunch of ironclads.

I play raven guard so yes shrike is awesome, but I'm a little biased

My Armies: 2000 pts Vior La Tau
5500 pts Armagedon Deathskull Orks
3000pts Raven Guard with Grey Knight contingent
1000 pts Tyranids (Kraken or Swamp Paint Scheme, don't know yet).
4000pts Word Bearers, Company of Shadow, and Libation Bearers.
2000pts Chaos Daemons.
Warhammer Fantasy: High Elves
I'm Chaplain Israfil on http://sonsofcorax.freeforums.org/index.php
Current Projects: Imperial Guard: Swamp Stalkers of Myr! and Harbingers Space Marines!

Apparently taking:

Pedro w/ Drop Pod Sternguard (carrying their regular competitive wargear I don't know what people usually take lol)

Lysander w/ Assault Termies in a Land Raider (not sure if it's a variant)

is epic win. Not that I've seen this tried before, which I haven't.

Whats so funny? It's a legal, and viable list. How many armies can kill 4 Land raiders in 1500 pts?

Or they just kill 10 marines and you have no scoring troops....

The 10 marines are clearly sitting inside of the Land Raiders.

I'm not saying its highly competitive, I'm just saying that it should be very obvious that those 10 marines aren't sitting around in the open.

If you came up against Nurgle Marines with Melta spam, you could get picked apart. But I guess that risk is there no matter what you play. I certainly wouldn't have fun with this list, but it will give the vast majority of "balanced" armies a massive headache.

Ultramarines Second Company - ~4000 points

Dark Eldar WIP - ~800 points

Funny is that you're suggesting a tournament list that can't convincingly win about half or more of the missions (what with objectives being so crucial in 5th)

Libby with Null Zone + whatever (100)

Scouts (75)

Scouts (75)

Assault terminators + LLR with multimelta and extra armor (465)

LLR with Extra Armor (255)
LLR with Multimelta & extra armor (265)
Land Raider with Extra armor (265)

You have 1 land raider sit bac with scouts and lascannon

You have the libby in one redeemer null zoning away, the terminators in another and they both advance along with the empy reedemer that is providing cover. Melta the tanks, flamestorm the troops.

Good luck taking out 4 Land raiders at 1500 points.

The space Marine codex doesn't do fantastic things at 1500 points. It's def better at 1750+

Salamander Marines 65-12-13
Dark Eldar Wych Cult 4-1-0
Dark Eldar Kabal 36-10-4
2010 Indy GT Tournament Record: 11-6-3
Golden Ticket Winner with Dark Eldar

Clearly you don't attend many tournaments.... This list will have no problem controlling 1 or 2 points and contesting what ever is left.

This is the same basic Idea just a little more in-depth. Null zone is great, and the scouts are good for squeezing out 30 more points. It's nice he posted the LRs with the right options, I was just to lazy

Now that people are realizing that melta weapons are the only effective anti-tank... that many land raiders will only be a liability against any list written with 5th ed in mind.

Welcome to the tournament scene. If you want to see balanced play with your friends

Or if you can find one some tournaments are run with composition score. Thats a whole different kettle of fish.

eh, I mean the op list is interesting, but im skeptical. I think that you would be better severved by dropin a LR and picking up a drop pod+ Ironclad. That lets you pick up a deepstriking melta gun, plus 3 three ddcw attacks

If you want a tank busting Drop pod Naught you should go with the Venerable with multi-melta. The BS 5 is a real boon, not to mention that even if you scatter you will be within the 12" to get the extra pen.

Here's my friends brutally hard 1500 SM list:

Captain on bike, relic blade, artificer armor, storm shield, digital weapons.

3 maxed bike squads with 2x melta gun, attached multi-melta attack bike, two sergeants have power weapons, one has a power fist.

3 land speeder typhoons with heavy bolters

Pred with autocannon turret, lascannon sponsons.

It's tough to beat, and since most people don't see lists without land raiders or assault terminators as being "tough" you won't get dinged on comp either.

So does this kind of thing really work in the tournament scene? Do you basically just make a list that hits hard against a few things and hope you don't get matched up against the wrong things?

Yes that is correct, you survey the local meta-game and create a list that beats the most common army type. IF you do get paired up with a bad match thats ok, chances are that the person that beats you will loose to everyone you beat.

Wow... So just like doing mathhammer in game, the whole tournament scene is a big match in percentages--just on a more 'global' scale.

Slightly OT - after playing in various AdeptiCon games where Landraiders were running rampant I was shocked at how much fire they could put out on the move!

Ex:

Opponent: "Ok, I move the Landraider 6" and fire both lascannons at BS 4".

Poor me with my Chaos Landraider: "Huh?!"

- Blackbone

Us Blood axes have learnt a lot from da humies. How best ta kill 'em, fer example.

Running 4 Land Raider's for Marines is tough, yes. Thats 67% off a 1500. Now if you run up against a Mec-Guard list, your pretty boned. They also have lots of front armour 14's so your shooting las's at them. they are dropping St10 templates at you. Still need 4 to glance 5 to pen. But its the sheer volume. All SM players I run up against think that you have to run and form of LR just because its tough to break and they have the option to run it. But if you ignor them and base your army on the other side of the board well now you took them out of the fight and wait two-three turns till they are in it.

Now I play Crimson Fist. Keeping a unit or two(not counting the one he's in) around Pedro for the +1 attack bonus.(like Assault Squad/Termies/Things with Power weapons) that will benefit from it. When you can charge with two squads rolling some 70 dice(Most of those power weapons/lighting claws/power fist) the squad you just rolled up on in is a lot of trouble.

The Sanguinius: because you wished your primarch rocked this hard!
