Be serious now. How would Dakka justify the Tau using Titans?
I know its in general agreement that they'd use flyers instead, but their are plenty of advantages to using a Titan as well (morale comes to mind) and I can honestly see them fielding some.

I rate they should just keep it as the Manta. Gives the Tau the well, a Tau-ish vibe....

I think a Tau titan would be a bit too Robotech for GW.... we all know how highly they value IP that's not theirs....

I highly doubt Tau would ever use titans, they would be more inclined to superheavy flyers that act as in a dropship/bomber/anti-titan role.

Every titan I've seen does have that look, and it's cool. But it just doesn't feel right in 40K, the Manta is titan enough.

Warlord sized titans? Nah... But I could see Warhound sized ones showing up given their love of battlesuits. It would probably not be crewed the way humans crew theirs, but work on the same principles as their suits, with one guy plugging into and "becoming" it.

Well, I belive they would never go beyond or even up to the size of a warhound, I definetly feel they would employ heavy suits, heres a link of a model I guy made that I feel is a perfect example of one of these possible heavy suits http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/234582.page#637960

I feel strongly that the Tau "super heavy suits" would have to end up converting over to the four legged walker style to keep a contrast with the Imperial and Chaos styles.

The only other real alternative would be to have super heavy battle fortresses, and those would just end up being Manta variants, anyway.

It's just not a part of their fluff, it makes them unique to not have huge robots for their warmachines. Basically everyone has titans (or bug titans) so when they added Tau and brought back Necrons they made tau use ships instead and Necrons have pylons and such instead. It makes them different and a bit more interesting. Using titans would take away that.

Somewhere.

The only way I can see the Tau using titans is if one went over to them, which seems unlikely, or if they repaired one for the traitor human units to use as support. Both seem fairly unlikely, however, given the Tau's need for mobility. A Titan simply cannot be moved fast enough. A Manta can and does take of the super-heavy role.

I agree with Solkan, if the Tau were to make a walker Titan, it would most likly be a four legged thing. I was thinking about making a conversion for a new Tau Walker using a defiler, a Pirhana and some weapons like Missle pods and Railguns.

Tau Titans.......perhaps

But what tactical role would they serve for a army that overwhealms their opponent on the move??

The Tau Manta does that job superbly

They dont call me Garybrandy for nothing!

I'd take a Tigershark over a Manta anyday. Tigersharks are basically the Titans of the Tau force, and their weapondry is more destructive than imagined

I guess the Manta is more like a thunderhawk transporter?

In game terms, a Manta only moves 12", how far does a Titan move?

The manta is our 'titan' for 40K, however it's also the most costly thing i've seen on forge world going at a huge 875 pounds (in aus that's about 1700+ dollars). To justitfy that price tag would be like winning a murder case while the evidence is 100% pointed at you.

I agree with the general thoughts of the Tau not having Titans or using Manta's in that role, there warfare is based on fluid mobile tactics, not static or smashing attacks...

Just my thoughts!

As stated the tau are unique, let them remain so and be as alien as possible. It would be better to give them some kind of stealth/technological ability that allowed them to shut down the void shields on enemy titans instead of just giving them something that makes a bigger bang.

I think it's entirely possible that the tau has some sort of titan, maybe a massive battlesuit of some kind, which flying and siege capability.. and who's to say that their technology hasn't made them to have super fast agile suits which run rings around a warhound or paladin titan, kind of like out of appleseed and other anime, which they are loosely based off, aren't they?

Yes but there is a limit to the useablity of such technology.

I mean, why bring one huge suit when you can bring a manta with equal firepower and a whole army inside.

Fair enough about useablility and all that stuff, but same as the space marines have the thunderhawk and their titans, even tho they rely on their titans for the super heavy firepower, the thunderhawks bring some pretty heavy firepower themselves and carry troops at the same time.

I was just saying that perhaps the tau have a similar thing, maybe for 1-3 of these titan suits doing a raid on a camp or an armoured column because they might need their Mantas fighting in another theatre and can't spare them at that given time. Also remember their first Codex cover, it had a pretty frikken big battlesuit in that pic.
