so i have a small tau force that i was considering melding with my guard.
my guard would either be a merc force using stolen tau tech or a renegade guard force that has sided with the tau, i havent decided yet.

the real question is would using a devilfish as a valkyrie be too far off the beaten path and considered stupid?
if it is not too far off i would rearm it so that it would definitely be WYSIWYG as far as weapons go. i'd also lijke to re-equip some fire warriors to meld the two forces together a bit. maybe i could find a use for some drones etc...

i could see using the firewarriors as carapace guard or storm troopers.

any thoughts? too confusing?

You'd have to make it look suitably different to a standard devilfish, and I'm not sure how exactly you'd do that. If, however, you did find a way, I don't see why it'd be a problem.

I don't see why it would be a problem either... unless you are are tournament player, where the rules on such things are a bit harsher :(

Have you started any conversion work on it? Would love to see pics

i'd say sure but you'll have to do some moderate converting. i'd say the chin burst cannon can easily be changed to a multilaser and you can replace the drones in the front of the devilfish with some rockets for the missles. i'd probably recommend modelling the devilfish with the side and back doors off (like the valk usually has) so that you can add door gunners if you choose. the only problem i could see is that the devilfish is WAY smaller than the valk (due to it's huge wings and super long tail) so some people may cry foul for that (in determining range to it or if it's in difficult terrain at the end of it's move).

Isn't the Valkyrie significantly larger? That would be my main concern for a tourney situation.

It would make a cool conversion, but then as an ork player, I love well-done looted vehicle conversions regardless of game legality/usefulness. (I'm seriously considering buying a Valkyrie as the basis for a battlewagon or stompa conversion )

Chin Burst cannon is easy enough to say, "this is a multilaser" The Gundrones on the front are an adequate stand in for the door gunners, so the big issue is the wings and their weapon mount, I'd almost be tempted to convert from a Sky Ray, moving the turret wings down and attaching them to the engine pods..

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>

it would need abit of converting but i guess

so some of the conversion/counts as ideas i had are...
ethereal as master of the fleet.
2 kroot hounds on leashes as pets for the company commander counting as bodyguards.
possibly fire warriors as grenadier vets or storm troopers.
a bulked up railhead with the turret replaced as a russ.

the one thing i am getting stuck on though is i will need to replace the guns on the fire warriors. from a fluff standpoint why would they ever do this? the stormtrooper replacement i could see but swapping a pulse rifle for a lasgun on the vets i could never see.

id love to squeeze a crisis suit in but i cant think of anything that has stats close to it.

i'm also thinking of how to get some drones in the list... maybe ratlings? i'd really like to use the drones as my rough riders but i might get called out on this one. the one idea that comes to mind is the explosive charge on a lance attached to the drone. the drone would be placed on the proper base of course.

Wait, you want to do an Imperial Guard army counts as, with Tau models?

That's kinda ridiculous.

Post pics if you get the army built.

That makes no sense.
The Tau use their own equipment, and don't give the Gue'vasa access to anything too high tech. The Guard that they take, in turn, don't retain anything too high-tech since the Earth Caste takes it for study, or it's flatout destroyed by the loyalists before they're killed off.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea.
But you're better off doing a standard Tau army with Guard models in place of Kroot.

Sentinel, you just have to accept only having one gun (and a HK and CC attachment)
