Now, I'm cautious to use the phrase "Militia" in this force because I'm aiming to make the models look as if they have been converted to Chaos, but are still trained soldiers.

So, details :

I decided to try and make this force from the old 'Lost and The Damned' codex from the Eye of Terror days ... ah, I remember them so well
"Anyway", I said to myself "this force is going to be a mixture of the LATD codex, normal guard entries, and a fallen Inquisitor!"
Well, one step at a time.

Firstly, The Fluff!

25 Terran standard years ago, the 702nd Tertian Royal Guard were being transported to a planet on the Eastern fringes. Mid way their journey, an Inquisitor under the name of Dorrien Feng requisitioned them for an exterminatus order on a nearby planet. Once the 702nd's Cruiser had entered the warp for their 6 week journey, several of the crew and soldiers started reporting illness. Initially put down to warp sickness by the Medicae staff, by the end of the first week, 600 personnel had been hospitalised. The medicae repeatedly requested Inquisitor Feng to assess the sick crewmen, but ever since the journey, he had remained locked in his quarters. Towards the end of the second week, navy security personnel reportedly arrested 75 soldiers on charges of heretical worship of Chaotic idols. All 75 were immediately executed. The beginning of the third week brought chaos and carnage to the ship. Inquisitor Feng descended from his room into the cargo hold the 702nd had been billeted in. 6 hours later, the entire regiment had declared their allegiance to Chaos and was in full scale mutiny against the Ship. The Inquisitor led a small party of 16 men to the bridge on the command deck, and promptly dispatched the entire bridge staff.

Since that date, there have been several unconfirmed sightings of the "Children of the Undivided" as they are now known. When Inquisitors managed to capture a soldier and interrogate him, it transpired that the Children's motto of "We shall never sleep, since sleep is for the weak. We shall never rest, till they are all dead" was literal. He and the other 3,000 members of the former 702nd, had never slept for 25 years. Despite this, they are still deadly opponents who utilise cunning and brute strength to win the day. Currently believed to have launched a full scale invasion of the Agri world Persius reach, as part of the 13th Black Crusade.

Glad to see i'm not the only one doing chaos guard =). I think it's a good idea and the fluff is good to. I did my chaos guard to go along with my Black Legion. Lol the guard I have are just converted using the winter heads from pig iron, left over bits from my CSM, and gs to make chaos symbols screaming faces and to make ragged great coats. Can't wait to see how you've done your's.

@LegioDaemonis - Thanks for your kind words on the fluff! I'd love to see some of your Renegade Guard as well!
I'm using Pig Iron heads too, but the rebel ones ... Were yours hard to glue on as well? Mine refused to stick!

Well, on to the pics!

All C&C are welcome!!

Good work so far, however I will say to make sure you remove all the mould lines from the rest of the army (I know it's a test mini, but just a warning).

would like to see some highlights on the face, make it more look like blue skin, which is a quite interesting idea.

Thanks for all the comments guys! (or gals, not too sure)

@ Leigen_Zero - I'll make sure to remove those lines! And I'm hunting for washes ti use .. I was thinking the old Ork skin wash maybe?
@ Saints_Knife&Brush & typhus - I'm making thier skin blue (well I was hoping for a bluey grey) to try and make them look dishevelled, tired and mildly dead.

I should have some more work done soon!

First of all the colour scheme is pretty good. Criticism wise, washes and mould lines are the most important bits of advice I think. However I also think a bit more effort in tidying up edges and properly defining different components (like under the shoulder pads and where the lasgun meets the arm) would help a lot.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

My heads were a little hard to attach also =/ You would think the super glue, because that's what I used, would make them attach easier. I'll post some pics for you tomorrow because most of the ones I actually have done are siting in Simple Green because the lousy Armory spray primer i got from my flgs sprayed dusty and I couldn't get it all off by washing/rubbing ; well I guess I you get what you pay for....

I'd say that but the $.96 cans of spray paint from Wal-Mart have always worked outstanding for me. I've tried GW, Armory and other "modeling primers" but none of them work as well as the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart.

As for the chaos guard in question I think that they look great. In the pic provided it doesn't look like the guy's face, though. It looks like he's got some kind of mask on. That's fine by me. Either way it looks cool. Use some washes to really bring out the detail and then highlight everything.

Looks good so far and you already heard about the mould lines.

Primer- I use Armory and you can prevent access dust if you don't coat the models more than twice. even if you can see grey and pewter through the primer it's fine. as long as you got primer dust on it, there's enough tooth to base coat.

But if you like the whole thing covered, don't hold the can 12+ inches away with a side to side motion. Try 8 inches and pointing directly at the model, use short direct bursts.

I tried all kinds of primer and the biggest thing I notice is that formulated model primer is thin, to preserve detail when used correctly. Car/ Household Primer builds up very quick and its easy to lose eyelids that way.

@Flinty - Yeah, As soon as I can find some matching washes I'm going to give him a good going over, and I'm waiting on some wet dry to clean up the mould lines. I'll hopefully get some more done (recesses) either today or tomorrow, depending on other annoyances.
@LegioDaemonis - Yeah I used super glue too, but it seemed as though the heads just didn't have the right shape of neck
@artyboy - They're mostly going to be wearing re-breathers, but I don't think the light helped to illuminate the face properly
@LBursley - That's pretty much how I undercoat my stuff, I thought I was just being lazy! Btw, I love your stuff! Especially the work with the Fibre Optics!

Next few pics up either this evening or tomorrow evening ... I got a lot of other stuff to do

Basecoat the bone coloured parts with dheneb stone foundation, the black priming appears to shows through on the back.

Hehe, glad you like what you saw. I dunno I've been hearing a lot of bad things about Armory Primer. I guess its all about preference. I will say, Krylon Economy Primer I purchased from Lowe's had a pretty smooth finish. But the eyelids disappear lol.

Keep us up to date on this guy. I'm very interested to see the final.

Not sure what wet/dry is but the best solution to mould lines is a nice needle file and some patience

Nah im kinda lagging on doing the rest of my guard(stormlord, demolisher, orgryn, commissar, super oop psycher, and about 3 more squads of shock troopers). But thanks for the offer. It'll be prob. until the guard release and untill I get ahold of some decent spray primer(b/c using my airbrush is a pain since im lazy lol) before I start working on them again.

just a quick thought, you should model all the slipknot masks onto your unit leaders, would be interesting, or better yet, make your inquisitorial unit 9 members in size and have each one wear a different mask lol
