Thanks, everyone. I'm glad the grey-and-red was so popular. Speaking of which:

I tried pushing the contrast further on this set, particularly the red. I think it worked best on the Crusader, almost as well on the Marauder. Curved surfaces, like the Atlas' head, are still something of a challenge.

I have two more lance packs, and I'm thinking of switching back to camo so as not to get bored. Maybe desert, maybe urban? We'll see.

More lovely work. These new models really do look amazing with even relatively simple colour schemes. If you’re switching it up again, i vote for an urban scheme

I mostly agree-- the newest sculpts have super-deep details, making it really easy to highlight, but the same depth makes more intricate designs difficult to pull off. Way back in the 80's, I had all sorts of wacky, personalized paint schemes for my 'mechs-- I did two variations of the Spider-man costume (on Spiders, of course), a Union Jack Wasp and Maple Leaf Stinger, and an Awesome painted like the cover of The Wall. I'm not complaining, really, as these newer models paint up right quick.

That's one vote for urban camo.

It's a Marauder II not a Marauder, Josh. Don't confuse young mechwarriors lest they learn the hard way the 25 ton difference between the two mechs

I vote for desert camo. I have 40 mechs painted as such.

Oh, yeah, Marauder II. I meant to write that.

One vote for urban, one for desert.

My vote is urban, as long as you have a Hunchback to paint…..

Urban all the way. Battletech city fights were always more fun in my book.

No Hunchback, I'm afraid. No Urbanmech, either. I'll log your vote nonetheless.

We didn't play a lot of Cityfight, mostly because we didn't have any 1/285 buildings.

Thanks! I based it on a GIS result for "tank markings."

No, not wholly surprised.

That's three for urban, two for desert. I have two lances left to paint, maybe I'll do one each...

Well, I also have a whole bunch of CAV models from a KS I backed years ago, so it's not like I'm about to run out of 'mechs.

Mechs are looking great Josh, I'm looking forward to how you paint the other two lances. Will each lance be painted differently? I would love to see one of the lances painted in a similar style to the group you just finished, but with blue and white/grey as the main colors. The desert camo sounds good too.

Hm. I may give that a test run in the near future.

Ask, and ye shall recieve:

This is the Inner Sphere Heavy Battle Lance: Axeman and Cataphract in the top photo, Bushwacker and Nightstar in the bottom photo. I'm not totally enamored of this set-- the Bushwacker looks like some sort of Lego toy to me, and the Nightstar is equipped with post-Clan stuff, which I don't currently have the rules for. They all painted up nicely-enough, though.

Here are a couple of group photos:

In addition to Battletech, I have been working on my entry for this month's Painting Challenge. The theme is Location, Location, Location, and I decided to paint up these chiupacabra from Gangfight Games:

They look pretty good assembled, but putting them together was a major hassle. They come in six separate pieces, with very small gluing surfaces. I opened a brand-new bottle of superglue which turned out ot have gone bad-- I didn't know superglue could go bad, so at least I learned something. I did some puttywork on the gaps, painted them up, and even sculpted a little cactus for one! While getting them ready to photograph, one of their tails broke off (see: bad superglue), and then finally they refused to come into focus, which I guess is what happens when you hunt cryptids. Anyway, here are the two intact ones:

I'll repair the third and try to get better pics for my Challenge entry.

The heavy battle Lance is a nice set. I’m biased though as I fell for the Bushwacker many moons ago due to Mechwarrior2

Great camo scheme!

Fantastic work! I keep meaning to have a look at Battletech, especially with the new starter set around now which is extremely reasonable..

Here is the last of my Battletech figures, this time in what is supposed to be a desert camo scheme:

I had a couple of false starts on this set. My first attempt (on the Stinger) was based on AP Desert Yellow, but it ended up being too close to the colors on the base. Next, I went with off-white (Delta Ceramcoat Fleshtone Base), and tried a variety of browns for the camo, but it all sort of blended together into a muddy mess. I eventually went with the AP Army Green to add some variety, and then ended up here. This particular color scheme is my least favorite of all I've done so far, but they are finished and that's what counts.

While I don't have anymore official BT models left to paint, I do have a big box of Reaper CAV models if/when I decide to open it up. Before that, I have to finish off my Painting Comp entry for this month. I built a little scenic base for the chupacabra, but I need to find a little goat/sheep/rabbit for them to be stalking. I'll hit the local hobby shop after work today and see what they have.

Love the Marauder! Like you, that was always one of my favorite of the original unseen. That said, I have always been most partial to the rifleman, even though it kind of sucked in the rules. Those AC fives just didn’t do it. Great work, as always!

Very nice work! Does BT tend to be played with any terrain, or just on the flat hex maps?
