A bit more train stuff this update. See below.

Thanks. It's a bit more exciting to build and look at than the typical "tactical rock" of re-posed miniatures.

A bit of primer and black (and green) on the loading shed (I don't know what it's actually for, that's just what I've come to call it).
I think I'm going to leave some of the underlying paint visible to give some variation to the finish. Therefore no solid primer/basecoat layer.

Nice bit of wall smashing.

Good choice with letting the old colours bleed through on the shed.

Thanks MT.

Thanks Gits'.

Concept time! Thoughts required. What do we think?

The idea being that he's leaping over a metal fence (so we have one metal base, one wooden base, and one stone/brick base).
He needs to be that high up, as you can see the comparison to the flight stand.
Even just clipping the top, as he is here, that's a really high fence.

There will be added details to the fence to make it more fancy (think of an Imperial eagle and many twirly bits), and the top of the spike in the middle will be added so that it doesn't look like he's impaled.
There will also be a large bush at the bottom of the fence so it won't be as plain as it is here.

Thoughts? Will this work with more details on the fence and base?

It doesn't strike me as being as immediately obvious as the other two with regards to the action. There's a chance it may end up looking like he's just chest-bumping a fence for some weird reason.
It probably won't, just doesn't instantly grab me in the same way as the others.

Maybe have the fence look a bit more damaged, steel reading under the force of the big lunk in power armour, or a bit lower, kicking off of a fence that's bent under the weight? Or turn it into a gate that he's bursting through?

Or trust that you will pull it off as you normally do

Gits'. Not in that armour, he ain't. I was going to add the top of that pole being bent over and hide the impalement. However...

Good idea, MT. Thanks.

I'll hide some more support for him inside the aforementioned bush, but you can see that he is supported even though he's not glued to the fence and it's not glued to the base (only 2 of the posts are drilled into the base).
Eagle will get some more detail... if only rivets...

Edit: Oh, and as to adding some more movement to these, I do plan some jet/flame effect for the jet packs.

and some more paint on the train shed thing.

The subtle, underlying colour spots I planed to remain visible didn't survive contact with the enemy layer of paint required to get contrast on the bricks.
So I'll have to add them back in at the weathering stage.

I'll now focus on finishing the interior so that I can glue on the roof before doing the outside.
...must remember to do the back of the standing chap before that too...

Thanks one and all.

Interior done.
May not look like much, but there has been a lot of "hidden" work, such as fixing the lines of the windows where the original printed on design has flaked off (they are a minimum of 3 decades old).
Kept it looking dirty but functional.
As this is only going to be seen from a distance and only through the open doorways I did restrain myself from going too mad with details and painting.
And kept mainly to the original (my Granddad's) paint scheme. Just picked out some of the details that were already there.

Now to glue on the roof and finish the exterior.

Progress is progressing. Getting near, so photos when it's done.

In the mean time...
I mentioned a while ago that one of my cousins got married. They didn't want any large presents as they are living in that USA place, and that suits me fine...
This is what I gave her.

It was inspired by their wedding invitations, that had a colourful, paint-splattered, background, and child-art like line drawings for decoration.
Having added my paint splatter, I was struck by how "space-like" it felt, so I went for a spaceship as the subject.

Using a "chrome" paint (Humbrol #191) I painted the ships lines and liked the effect of it coming into and out of view as the light played across it.

So I stopped while I was ahead.

Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Thanks Gits'. Nice to hear that.
They are the more "arty" side of the family tree, so an arty gift was best, I felt.
Had to let go of my personal art style and leave this alone; to trust in the concept and not get caught up in "realism".

I like to think of the ship being so shiny that it's reflecting the surrounding stars and nebulae, etc. to become almost invisible.
Rather than it being a line drawing that doesn't hide the background... It satisfies the devil on my shoulder a little bit.

Don't know how these "modern artists" do it and sleep at night.

Anyway...
On with the show, Inceptors and their bases.

As I said, I'd reinforce the fence of the first (3rd and last) chap's base and then hide it.
You can see the addition of a piece of wire under his foot, firmly glued in.
I then created some lumps of foliage, as I did for my Princess Mononoke build (in the other blog), and glued them about the wire to hide it.
I threw some paint in at the back of the fence and on the bases to make life easier when painting later.

I'm nearly done with the train shed, then I've got to paint the Nurgle chap, Mr. Blightbringer, before I can paint these.
One set of hands is definitely the bottleneck here...
But at least I've solved the desk space bottleneck problem.

In other news:
Another present; more earrings.

The thought process was:
Something red...
Blood is red, a blood drop is a pleasant shape...
Bit weird and boring for an earring as it is...
Could do red marble, I recently painted some marble, that'll break it up a bit...
Needs more...
Could add a jewel...
Have some water effects type stuff, could fill a hole with that...

and I ended up with these (at least one is in focus in each photo):

Thanks Fifty. I do the hard work so (whoever buys it) doesn't have to.

Thanks Graven'. As they are, clear flight stands just aren't as invisible as they are intended to be. They can be made to work, but so can a piece of wire...
These particular flight stands just look so fragile, and I've not seen anyone say they like them.
And if glued on (rather than a peg in a hole), they are non-removable (without damage).

Still, the train shed thing is done.
Here's one photo to keep you going until I can reveal all (I like the recipient to get the full view first with these things).
You can see that I did add back in the spots of colour that were there from when my Granddad made it.

Now to decide what colours to do the Noxious Blightbringer in... hmm...

Yeah, to have them all in drop-pose would be a bit boring. If you've got a jet pack, you're going to take advantage of it to get about, even if you don't really need to.

And now some progress on something that's actually in the title of the thread.

Mr. Blightbringer.
Layers to the armour, just mixtures of 3 paints (well 4 if you count the added black for the first layer... and the black basecoat... and 5 for the primer...).

Speaking of contrast... in contrast to the number of paints used on the armour, there was a lot more used for the robes/cloak...

I didn't even realise your train shed was that small! Makes the detail even more unbelievable! I really like the soot around the archway of the shed, real nice touch.

Might seem like a silly question, but are those paints you're using on the blightbringer enamels? I have some Revell enamel paints I've yet to use and I don't know if I want to use them. Great job on him so far regardless!

Thanks. Yeah, i realised after taking all the photos that I hadn't mentioned the scale of the shed. Hence the scale photo being separate.
Yeah, my Granddad had the soot marks on them, so I kept them as it makes sense.

Yes, 99% of all my painting you'll see is done with Humbrol Enamel paints.
I come from an Airfix* model kit background and have always used Enamels. I'm used to how they work. So continue to use them.

*other model manufacturers do exist...

There's quite a few "Enamel Vs Acrylic" threads here on DDakkka that I've participated in. Look them up for the full story, but in short, they're different and both have their pro's and con's. If you've only used one type, then the other will take some getting used to.

My first introduction to painting and modelling was with Airfix and my dad got me started with enamels before I started playing 40k. Being 10 at the time ultimately made me switch to acrylics because they were easier to use, but I do fancy giving enamels a go again to see which I prefer.
