Been lurking on Dakka for a few days now and I thought I would go about asking for some advice. I am planning to , for the first time, scratch building terrain, starting with some basic buildings. I was wondering what common materials are used for constructing the walls and bases of them? Ive seen the use of foam and cardboard to some decent effect. Was just looking on some imput /advice to it all! Thanks ahead of time for your err time!.

Cardboard and wall spackle. You draw it out on a piece of cardboard, cut it out so that it bends at 90 degrees, add the floor with Elmers glue. Let the glue dry, then spackle it. Spray it black drybrush with grey and viola- one finished building. I do use plasticard for the base on these but you can use cardboard too.

Check out my bit on foamcore terrain (which foamcore can be substituted with thick corrugated cardboard):

a cheap alternative for plaster chucks is....cat liter. yes cat litter. its great for building city fight terrain. texturing paint is also important. put sand or sawdust in your basecoat, and it adds a nice roughness to it. Check out miniwargaming.com for a bunch of tips.
