My first P/M blog but figured it would keep my motivated to finish it. My first, humble pictures of the parts cleaned of flash/washed and set to dry. I still need to do the detail cleaning/flash (Still in bags!)...but I'm saving that later else I would rush to paint it first. I'm also waiting on a few parts for my Gatling Blaster (FW missing parts in a kit, shocking ). Anyways, here are the parts laid out to dry;

I plan on painting it in the FW colors (Blue with yellow head). Some questions though;

The arms attach with cables to the main body...so I don't rightly know how I will do weapons swaps (If I choose to). To be honest, my group will always allow me to make the arms 'count as' each game...and I like the Gatling Blaster/Laser combo in terms of looks...so just hard attach them and say the hell with it? Or magnetize and say the hell with the cables?

LED lights in the eyes or cheesy effects?

Tried doing a quick glance at those arm pipes you mentioned but most of the fw example pics hide that detail. Would it be possible to magnetize the pipes as well? I suppose its up to you, but if I had myself a titan I would probably try to go the extra mile even on the little things. In any case I look forward to your updates and good luck with the project!

Aye, I do but I found a Testors spraypaint called "Dark Blue" which, when I tested on a black primed surface, strongly resembles the dark blue scheme from the FW website. I bought a bottle of Createx light blue which I hope I can airbrush up a bit to give the surfaces a bit more depth. I'm not an airbrush expert by any means though!

Ah yes, I started a crappy papercraft titan and a blog to keep me motivated....... and promptly abandoned the project. (I don't play apoc? what am I doing then making a titan???)

I am sure you will not have that problem. Good luck!

I have to agree with 0079. Since you splurted the cash on such a big model, it's really worth going the extra mile, especially since they've started releasing the extra arms....

I would highly recommend familiarize yourself to working with resin if you have not already done so, as it is quite different from working with plastic. Pinning and crazy glue are your friend.

Well, progress slowly continues. After this week, I should have much more free time so I can dive in. Also, it seems the slowest part of a project for me is figuring out the 'recipe' of the paint. After I figure out my colors/shading and the order I can speed up. So, given that I've figured out the blue/gold part of the Reaver. I'm using the following paints for my blue;

So, I primer black, then use the Testors Blue as a basecoat, airbrush the transparency deep blue around the corners of the panels...then airbrush the lighter blue in the middle. I end up with this; (Sorry for the lack of light/depth in my photo, I can't take pictures!)

And here is what lays ahead;

More updates in a week or so (Hopefully). Still undecided on what to use for metallic airbrush...

Well, fairly big update. All major pieces are painted and ready to be pinned together. Only parts left to paint are;

Inside of cockpit
Crew
Techpriest and skulls inside
Little add on details (pipes, scrolls, etc)

So I'm at the point of now putting it together. So I'll put some questions to my fellow modelers;

What pose? Standard slowly advancing pose (Per FW) or go something more dynamic? I'm frankly a bit worried about dynamic, as my Warhound wanted to tilt often.

Name the crew and the machine! I'm taking suggestions for naming the beast and the little guys at the controls.

Here are the updates;

good luck, I lover Reavers and will be watching this.

Now I have two comments for you.

1. I plan on painting it in the FW colors (Blue with yellow head).

The Legion colour scheme you want is for the Legio Astorum. Known as the Warp Runners, they are one of the oldest and most respected Titan legions. In case you didnt know this, it wasnt just a set of colours. Now what you want to do with your titan is up to you of course but just as with a canon marine chapter if you use on the big favous Legions it helps to know something about them. Here we can help:

Mk1 Beetleback warlords, the original and the best.

Note how the flames are 'condensed' with a rescaling of the miniatures. I think the new colour scheme looks better, but would look a little bland on old pattern titans at Epic scale.

The Schola Progenium website has only this to say:

ASTORUM, LEGIO — (Also: Warp Runners) The symbol of this legion is a black disc with a blue corona, and its colors are blue with flames. They are known as the defenders of the Cadian Gate, and are based out of Lucius forge world. This legion fought alongside the Howling Griffons Space Marines and the Drookian Fen Guard in the Defense of Cadia. They fought at the Battle of Tallarn.

You can get more on the Lexicanium website, but only in German. However Legio astorum was one of the viewpoint Legions, known for many hero princeps including Marnoc and Kurtz, both from the time of the Heresy. The Legion was not present at the battle for Terra, only the Legio Ignatum - the Fire Wasps were, or at least only the Fire Wasps fought there and survived. In result of this only the Fire Wasps are allowed to join the Imperial Palace garrison, thus the Legio Astorum is not the most prestigious and senior Legion, but from what I can remember has amongst the best combat record.

Legio Astorum will fit in very nicely if you collect Cadians, as the Legions primary role is guarding the Cadian Gate. Tholugh of course squadrons can be found elsewhere. If Fire Wasps sent a scout detachment to Tarosthen warp Runners can be found anywhere.

This is a datasheet from Bell of lost Souls for the Legio astorum, I dont know if the markings are apocryphal:
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/01/legio-astorum-warp-runners-logo-sheet.html

Here is a list of known canon Titan Legions.
http://www.epic40k.co.uk/force/titanorders.pdf

2. The arms attach with cables to the main body...so I don't rightly know how I will do weapons swaps (If I choose to).

Forgeworld now does alternate weaponry though it isnt intended for swap out. So far they have a melta cannon (grossly inferior weapon) and a power fist (inferior under the rules but interesting). I suggest you pick up a power fist and hold out for the volcano cannon. To prepare for this I strongly suggest you magnetise your titans arms, albeit very heavily. I know of people with Reaver Titans and the recommend not glueing arms if only for convenience of storage alone, you will regret not doing so. I would magnetise the missile launcher too. While there is only one other weapon worth puting up there, a Deathstrike you could conceivably use the upcoming IG kit and rig a connector. Dont worry about the exposed missile if you do, Vortex missiles on titans were normally exposed like that.
Allowing for how much you paid for the monster allowing for swap outs only makes sense.

crap rules, but how can you resist the monster!

Inferior in every way to the volcano cannon, I would wait if I were you.

I cannot answeer about the cabling, IIRC the peron who built the one I saw ignored them. Alternatives possibly include replacing the cabling with, er... cabling, and magnetising the socket on the army or titans body. Though you will need to look into the praticality of that yourself. Those spiral bound armoured wires should do the trick. allowing for how manificent the kit is, how ballsy the power fist looks I think it could be worth the extra effort.

That was some terrific information Orlanth, I greatly appreciate all of it. To the magnet or not to magnet....the only issues I see are;

1. I cannot imagine ever putting a PF on it for a game. It looks cool....but pretty pointless. I don't know if I will spend another 90 bucks or so just to put it on when it's standing on the shelf....
2. It attaches differently than other guns. IE It would be easy to magnetise the bottom of the arm joint where the gun attaches, very difficult to magnetize the actual ball portion (where it joins with the arm overhang, which I would be forced to do).
3. I won't be traveling much with it. Probably twice a year.
4. I'm concerned with strength of magnet! Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

Some progress....

The body and legs are put together. Pinned and Gorilla Glue, shouldn't go anywhere! I made the following in different parts for storage/transporation;

Legs
Pelvis ring
Upper torso
Cockpit
Void shields

The legs and torso division allows the titan to swivel, while making transport much easier. I magnetized the void shields so I can keep track during the game (removing and adding as I bring them back up). I decided to ping/magnetize the cockpit so I can remove and work on more details...plus show it off to people that are interested! I think the pics are self explanatory, just wanted to show the different parts and scale shot.

Still need to decide the following;

1. Name for the titan, as this is the hold-up for the scroll work on top of the hull. Or perhaps just same basic goth/40k latin. Thoughts?
2. The weapons....arrgh..I keep switching between making them swap or not. I could easily magnetize it (Although this will not help with a power fist, as it doesn't use the standard joint connection). I'm really leaning towards hard-attaching them. I can't really see me buying additional arms....that I'll never use.

Still need to paint the following;
1. Crew
2. R Knee pad
3. Touch up
4. Scroll work up top
5. Other details

Anyways here's the pics;

That's one nice titan... I like how it still looks clean, all the battle damage these day makes you forget the imperium actually maintains these.

For a name, here are some from old WD batreps:

- Ferratus Primus, Secundus, Tertius, three members of a battlegroup (may come in handy if you decide to buy two more )
- Clavigera (has very cool short story in WD 188)
- Confractus

Thanks for those suggestions. I like Cruiciatus, it kind of rolls off the tongue. I'll have to look it up/Google. As to weathering, I'm still debating if I will or not. I have an urge to weather (Look at my Celestial Lions in my gallery...heh).....so it's hard to not. Perhaps I'll just weather the pistons with grease streaks...undecided...

jabbakahut wrote:I'm stealing that magnetizing void shields, brilliant!

It certainly looks cool, I just can't see myself using it. It will be rare that I play this beast per it's normal rules (Most times it will be 'pre-damaged' so I don't steamroll people)...but even then I can't see me using a Power Fist. So it would likely sit on the shelf.....but damn if it doesn't look cool. I'll sit on it for a few more days.

FYI, as someone that has purchased/put together a FW Warhound I'll add two more comments; Your guide is absolutely terrific! I only wish I had known about it back in the day when I put my Warhound together. No instructions, poorly packaged bags of parts? Nice right? Also, it took me over 4 months to get all of the correct parts for my Warhound from FW....and my Reaver was/is missing a piece for the second gun (This is why it's not pictured yet, I haven't dug it out of the bag). I called, told them the exact part with the part number per their list they send with the Titan....1 1/2 week later...get the wrong farking part. I call back, explain the situation, was told it would go out UPS.....another week and no email for shipping. Call back yet again last Friday, no record of any part being re-ordered! Simon assured me he's fixing it this time....but wow, they need to address their QA and ordering issues.
