I heard in the rumors before the new dex came out that the repacked sets would include new bits for making veterans and penal legion. Is this true or was this just wishful thinking?

You get 2 of those for 16 and BAM...a 10 man squad for less. Plus I have a crap ton of Sgt and Special weapon arms. And You can get a pack of 5 Plas/meltas for $8 as well.....

At least for us Aussies (who pay obscene amounts for Warhams) there are cheaper alternatives.

What GW did was, IMHO, F@#$ing genius.

It seems that you need the exact same amount of guardsmen in the new lists, so what do they do?

"S&^t, let's repackage the guardsmen so that they come with less!"

They did the exact same thing with Ork Boy mobs and Empire Troops........crafty GW.

I've ordered 3 boxes of troops (i didn't stock on the 20 man boxes like the dope i am) and i'm wondering what weapon options do they come with other than lasguns...

I know the command sqaud box (i've ordered one of those as well) comes with some extra bits as well... but i'm not sure what bits.

I'm seriously tempted to start a Praetorian IG army (only ever be a 1500 pt force) using the Wargames Factory Zulu war redcoats. (they looked like them to me, anyway).

I have a bag full of unused spare IG lasguns, and a few spare flamers, meltas and grenade launchers.

Scale cannons/gatlings/maxim or suchlike are not hard to find nor are carriage parts.

I don't play anywhere near a GW store so using their miniatures is ONLY an option for me (and a last choice, at that).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

You know, some online stores might stock cheap Praetorian parts.

Especially since they don't even stock Praetorians.

I'm pretty sure that most of the metal guard minis are GW direct-only, so finding them at a discount online is going to be difficult if not impossible.

LOL. I don't play IG/don't know anything about IG, but when I was in the local GW store one of the red shirts there was "warning" if you will, a potential buyer telling them to "buy now, because in X (2?) weeks time they're going to change the number of units in the box, and so it's cheaper per unit now."

I'm actually doing that very thing right now. They are very cheap and look pretty good. Only thing is, they don't have epaulettes so you've have to sculpt your own. Which is what I'm doing for every one. I've already sculpted epaulettes on 30 guys and I haven't gone crazy. Well, yet.

And if you plan to put them on bases then you have to shave the bottom of the plastic molded to their feet.

Otherwise, with the Warstore I've gotten 40 for less then $30. It's crazy how cheap they are, really. And they look good too!

I know about the maelstrom games, in fact through their ebay store they offer free shipping internationally, talk about awesomeness.

Sometimes I'm amazed at the mark up that GW must sell their products at if other independent sellers can still make money with seriously discounted prices.

Their website is doing a good enough job on its own.

I'm not actually bothering to sculpt epaulettes onto the shoulders of my figs, and I seriously doubt anyone will actually notice - especially not once they pick them up and notice the lack of weight on them. These will be the first 28mm scale guard I've ever done (my previous guard - in 1990 were 25mm, and actually "true scale" to the rhinos and SM figures.). They're going to be for small games as I doubt I'll ever get more than about 1000pt done.

As to the bases. Well, it won't be the first time I've had to do something like that. After almost 30 years in the hobby, I've learned a thing or two.

Indeed, they wrecked it themselves when they decided to stop selling bits.

Obviously selling components at a premium, keeping the retailer and distributor cuts was not profitable...

I'd love to see the results if you do go that route.
