The Emperor Class Battleship 'The Sky Ablaze'

This army utilizes the Necrons Potential at Deepstriking and teleporting to quickly outmaneuver the enemy, or if the situation demands it, quickly making a heavy fire base.

The first few turns are the delicate stages, I understand this, but Necron resistance and Well be Back should ride this out. Also by using the V.O.D, I can keep the opponent guessing, and a well placed Solar Pulse will keep me on my feet. This will hopefully keep me alive until i can cause some damage by bringing in a good number of forces. Flayed Ones will deal with pesky infantry and C.C specialists, and a Monolith can pull out some warriors, scarabs can do some damage (especially if they have a Disruption Field... Painful). If the Deepstriking does not work , or becomes to risky, I will just get the squads on from the board edge.

The reason I am making this post is to find out how to improve the army, so if you dont have any improvements, please don't post, yes I do know that this is a risky army, but a fun one nonetheless.

P.S I will have some heavy forces to start with (Heavy Destroyers, Warriors ect.)

post a list, and then I can critique it.

this vague description is impossible to adequately critique.

1. You need to specify before you start if your guys will be deepstriking or board-edge. There isn't room mid-game in the rules for this decision.
2. Disruption Fields = not painful. After the changes to gauss and glancing, the 4 points you pay per scarab will not pay off very often. It doesn't even allow you to hurt Wraithlords or beefed Carnifexes like shooty Gauss does. Drop those and distribute the points elsewhere, like more Scarabs. Regular Scarabs are pretty good without the upgrade.

As far as the army theme is concerned, I assume you are planning on multiple Monoliths, Veil of Darkness, Flayed Ones for Deepstriking, and maybe some Wraiths? While the Wraiths are frail and expensive, don't discount the fact that you can teleport 18", deploy 2" from the portal, move 12", and assault 6". Maybe attach a Destroyer Lord with a Warscythe and that's a pretty speedy unit with some punch.

I like the idea, I am going to develop an army list to highlight the deep strike and mobile assets of Necrons and ponder it for a bit, as I like theme armies better than the same old list over and over.

Thanks for the advice, about the scarabs though, they would be tank hunting (12 inches plus the 6 to assault, they would be able to take down pesky vehicles not anything else). Also this is still in the thought stages, no lists yet.

While Scarabs are good at moving far and assaulting/tarpitting, they aren't going to be 'taking down' tanks. They will only ever glance anything, and even then you will only glance once per every 3 Scarabs on a charge (Once per every 9 scarabs for fast movers). That seems like an awful lot of points to throw into a possible wasted effort. Especially with so many 'ignore shaken/stunned' types of wargear out there. Anyway, to pay the extra 33% more points per Scarab you really have to be dedicated to wanting to attack tanks and get mediocre results. Give me an extra Immortal or Warrior over scarab upgrades anyday.

Also, the better you make your Scarabs the more attention they get. A squad of 6 (72 points) may draw fire from some random troops, but with good cover they will be fine. A squad of 6 with Disruption Fields near a vital target may draw a Hammerhead pie plate, ending all your hopes and dreams (and 96 points) instantly.

Here's something that looks like it could be fun, everything hinges on fluidity, with a fair amount of low end firepower, a good balance of CC, some deepstrike capability, and enough Monoliths to drop some pie plates or pull squads to a better position. Drawbacks were I couldn't get any medium range firepower to fit in here with the core I wanted (I really wanted to pack 2x Wraith + Lord squads). I guess if you wanted to fit some Destroyers or Immortals you could drop a squad of Wraiths, possibly drop a lord or change him to a cheaper foot lord, and then get rid of some Warriors. Same goes for Heavy Destroyers. I just love how the Wraith/Lord Combo works with Monoliths, you can split them after they come out of the portal to take advantage of the strengths, like the Wraiths can move/assault through cover and the Lord can't. Or you can keep them together for a fast moving high-initiative 36" CC unit that can chop up tanks or TEQs/MEQs.
