I have never played Space Marines before, but am now starting out with a Salamanders Force. I want this army to be a very fluffy one and fit in perfectly with their ascetic, but still be effective on the field. But I know nothing about what a good SM army has in it, nor how to play with said army. So I am asking you, the good people of Dakka, to design me a fluffy Salamanders Army. The only things that I wish to see are Vulkan leading it, plenty of Flamers and Meltas, a LR Redeemer (Thats the one with giant flame cannons right?), with a unit of termis and no bikes or speeders. I am just starting with the models so I am starting from scratch.

Thanks,
Ghost

Because, the Salamanders live on a high gravity world so they don't train in them. And I want this to be a very fluffy army. And I really hate the speeder model.

well you seem to know what you want... I dont want to be rude when I say this so I will try to be tactful. Why dont you just build your own list? go buy the codex, build an army list, then post it up here and we can give you feedback. I'm sorry but I am not going to do the work for you.

Somewhere.

They do have them, but they have less of them. So you can take it quite happily. I would, however, limit myself to one Fast Attack choice to keep things fluffy...which shouldn't be heard. Most of the really cool options aren't in Fast Attack and if I'm honest I rarely touch that part of the FoC.

I'd make the Terminators Assault ones, the ones with the Thunderhammers, because those guys are bad news to begin with and the whole Master Crafted thing gifted by Vulkan just makes them nasty. I'd also stick Thunderhammers on, well, anything that has the option to take it, but it will suck up a lot of points. Which is sorta the idea...there are supposed to be less Salamanders, but they're better equiped.

Your tactical squads should probably have maxed out options, such as a Plasma Cannon and Plasma Gun. And a Ironclad armed with a Heavy Flamer and Meltagun also feels right for a Salamander army.

why plasma for sallies? If you wanna stay fluffy then melta's and flamers all the way.

if you arent using MM/HF speeders, especially in a vulkan list, your denying yourself one of the best units in the codex. Fluff says they have few of these items, not none. But then again fluff says they should have higher strength and lower init compared to other marines as well and they dont so yeah.

if you know what you want in an army then build it with what you want. Why do you need to ask other people to do it for you? If you ask for sallies armies you are going to get lists with things like speeders because they are effective.

Where is your saviour now?

Ok well then it seems like I should just read up on some tactics and think about what best works for the way I play and then get you guys to critique it.

i would take two tact squads a terminator assualt squad, a devastor squad, a vindiccator a land raider and as a transport for your terminators take the land raider redeemer. don't know how many points that is but as you don't like speders or bikes you'll need heavy fire power to hurt the enemy.
