I've always wanted a small squad of snipers for fire support and stuff like that, but the previous rules meant you had to spend a doctrine point to use them and I just couldnt see the point in that. Although now the new rules dont use doctrines the new models are, in my opinion, some of the most hideous models GW has ever produced, so I was wondering, would it be ok to use regular Cadian snipers as Ratling Sniper squads, obviously if I let my opponent know what they are?

P.S: If this is in the wrong forum, this is only my second post so please dont have a big go at me.

The ratling model under the "cape" pointing a rifle where you can't see the face is a good 'un - I'd suggest just getting a squad of that one miniature...

If you wanna just use normal snipers, go for it. No-one is hardly going to say "OMG THAT ONE UNIT OF 10 SNIPERS I DIDNT KNOW THEY WERE RATLINGS!" and, like you said, they are very ugly models

My IG opponent uses Cadians proxied in as Ratlings.

I have the old ratlings, and they're ugly as sin (the new ones are fething horrendous however) but a friend bought them for me as a gift so they always get played :-)

They're a good unit, the models just stink. So yeah, just proxy in some decent-looking snipers instead, no-one should mind.

I don't mind the new models. They're meant to be fugly mutant hobbits after all.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I have the old models, and while they look a bit better than the short, overtly muscular ones that exist now, they are by no means gems in terms of models.

That said, fielding a 10 man squad of snipers has been extremely useful in game

You should be fine with some cadian sniper models. If you're worried about the faces, green stuff a mask over em or something.

I request it be WYSIWYG. If you're using the Cadian Snipers... You have to cut off their limbs to make them stunty. After that simply lean the weapon against them on the model.

Show me a rule (not fluff, rule) that says They have to be runty? Oh wait their isn't. As long as they are clearly holding a Sniper rifle, they are WYSIWYG. You try and "demand" MY models be however you want when they are perfectly WYSIWYG, you don't just get the Dread-in-a-Sock, you get the Bjorn-the-Fell-Handed-Old-metal-Model-in-a-Sock

I like both the new and old Ratling models. The way I see it, Ratlings are an ugly bunch to begin with.
My LGW has some blisters of the older Ratlings on the wall. I might get them (I got rid of my old ones years ago) because they're 3 euro cheaper than the new ones.
