Hey everyone! Welcome to my first post. Ever since I saw this tutorial over at ironhands.com I have wanted to do my own version.
The base is a 2 outlet gang box. I cut several of the outside details off with a razor saw then attached some of the Administratum building parts. I also added some bitz from the hardware store as well as a few odds n' ends pieces from my bitz box.
Then I decided it looked cool but it needed to glow since it was a generator. So I hacked up a flicker LED candle to stick inside but when I looked down into the side vents I could see the exposed LED. So I created a little burning furnace center. It is made from a bottle lid, some piece I scavenged out of a printer and crushed red plastic aquarium "jewels" aka little blobs of plastic. So now it lights up orange and flickers. You can see it looking down the side vent tubes best. I joking said it was a Prometheum furnace, then someone reminded me that Prometheum is a liquid so if you compress a liquid enough it becomes a solid right? Or I am just making this up as I go along, hehe.
Next came some paint. I decided to go with a blue/gray scheme with copper accents.
Finally came the base, which is a piece of MDF I carved the bricks in with a wood carving tool. I also added the LED's in the sides, there is a small hatch on the bottom so you can change batteries and a switch.
Full power Mr. Scott!
Now it just needs the pipe coupling glued onto where the pipe meets the ground, some debris, some weathering and rust and then some sealer and it's done. Whew takes a while.
I will put up some finished pics when it is complete.
Cheers!

That's some really nice painting and lighting! Fantastic work, is that your first ever effort?
My only beef is with the Imperial appearance. If it's a simple generator you're making, it's best to keep it industrial-looking, without any of the big wings and aquilas.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Hehe, not my first terrain piece, I have been making terrain for years. Just my first post on Dakka Dakka. Long time viewer first time poster lol.
I just pick my stuff up at the DIY store locally. So try them or a Electrical supply store.

I finished up the list of terrain I will be building to complete the set:
Incinerator: Similar style to this piece but on a longer base, exhaust pipes on the back side.
Pipe sections with walkway
Storage Crates and Barrels (Barriers)

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

Actually I looked over industrial piping on a number of sites, they don't bother to clean off mold lines on most of them. So I left it.

I love when people do this. Part of the reason I'm thinkin about going back to school for electrical engineering is so I'll know how to do stuff like that.
