Hi folks,
I just got some Tyranids back from Blue Table. I was way excited when I sent them off and then saw some finished photos. Got home today and opened the package... I wasnt too impressed.

They look great form 3-4 feet away, but for what they cost, I expected up close details and little errors.

Here are some close up shots of the Tyrant $65(he was sent in already black carapaced and red flesh), I cant tell that much more was done to the flesh at all:

Carnifex $55 -

Biovore $25 -

Im not bashing them, is this consistant with what other people have recieved on thier paint jobs? I was told they are Table Tob quality by Shawn, so maybe I just expected more since the cost seemed high to me.

Please note he did offer to send me back everything i sent to him in exchange for the paint jobs, I said a trade is a trade and left it at that.

Sincerely

Nick

Sorry,

I wont diss someone professionally in public. My mistake was expecting what I thought the cost should equal.

In any case, yes the photos suck, it was a quicky and the camera isnt the best!

The only thing I can do now is to make sure to get samples done before I pay full price and get local work when available.

Live and learn!

Anyone want to paint in exchange for bits (and live nearby ).

You paid for the models and you received your models. Your contract is complete and if you are
unsatisfied and can get no further resolution from the painter then there should be no issue with
giving a review of the work done so that others can make an informed choice of whom to hire.
In other words, you don't owe them anything. Who was it?

Despite so shaky photos, it seems that this painting company is dodgy or under skilled.

Can we have the name/website of the company to avoid/check them out, as we dont want a repeat.

I would be happy to paint them for bitz, but i live in Australia, i have a picture of my almost painted god fex.

The pictures are terrible and literally painful to look at, so it's damn near impossible to judge the quality of the paintjob (which from what I could tell didn't look too fantastic), and personally if I had paid that much per model to get that, I'd be pissed off.

If all you want is an opinion then yeah, they're bad, you got ripped off. But I just don't understand why you don't want to help other people avoid getting ripped off too by keeping the identity of this service secret. Public shaming is one thing, but simply saying "I paid this much to ____ and got ____, what do you think?" isn't exactly "dissing them" in my opinion. Like it was said, you owe them nothing so why not?

I still dont see anything wrong the pic though.

It shows clearly the paints arnt in their proper place.
none of the paints are coating the black properly.

Please do post the person's site. Because no its not an insult to do so. Giving that back to you IS an insult however.

Dude.. Before anyone can say for certain, you need smaller and clearer pictures.

THEN you can post the name of the company. Besides, if they did a great job you would be polastering their name all over the place.

Lets look at the basics to what we can see:

Pic 1: 1 coat of red and green obviousely cant cover + out of place

Pic 2: Random gray patches on the carapace ..... the flesh looks like he didnt bother to wash brush on red and just dipped it in gray paint

Pic 3: Not 1 single brush stroke is going along with the sculpt ( no matter how messy a painting is , this is ultimate proof of he dont know what he is doing )

Conclusions : Taking more pics will not save the obvious we see , very curious who charged for this xD

Gotta say, For that money, I'd have expected better than I can paint myself, not the kind of crap my kid sister and I could put out a decade ago. :/ Depressing, as this will probably put a lot of people off of using newer painting services.

I wont badmouth them in any way, but it was Bluetable Painting. All in all I was expecting more then what I got so that was my mistake. They have "table top" in thier painting description, so thats open to interpretation.

In any case it was an exchange of my companies bits for thier services, he offered to send all my bits back, but a trade is a trade so I told him to keep them.

Folks, just be sure you know what you are getting and I wholly recommend you get sample minis painted before you commit to any large order. They did have a fast turnaround of a week and a half and the packaging and communication were good.

Sincerely,
Nick

Wow, that really does look heinous. If they charged you $65 for blotchy, chipped paint, that's a phenomenal rip off. I know you've got your pride and "a trade is a trade" and all that, but damn.

They advertise "high quality" and "reasonable prices", and I'm afraid you got neither. If I were on the receiving end of this "quality" of service, I'd have asked for a refund without hesitation.

That is not tabletop quality. When paying for the service, at the very minimum, the painting should be clean.

I don't live particularly close to you (I live 45 minutes northwest of Austin, Tx) but for 65 bucks, I'd give you a hell of a lot better Hive Tyrant.

That is appalling work and whoever tried to pass that off as professionally done tabletop quality needs to have their paintbrush privileges revoked until they get out of the second grade.

Jesus dude thats bad, I mean really really bad, I know there have been a few painting companies set up lately that whilst not being the best painters themselves offer a cheaper service accordingly to their own ability level which is fair enough.

I'm so disgusted by that i'd even offer to paint it myself for you for no charge with a tank brush and still do a better job.

That really needs complaining about though.

He stated his opinion and he's entitled to that. So, I won't blast the painting company for their "table top" quality like I would like to. However I will say that this is why I hate painting companies. It's also the reason I laugh when you see the words "Master Painted" in the title of almost any painted model on eBay.

-J.

EDIT: Scratch that. I took a look at the company's gallery. The Tyranids above appear to be the quality they paint to, so...

I have seen some amazing things come from Bluetable, but this has got to be the shoddiest version of tabletop quality I have ever seen.

Now, that being said for the cost of the figure I give you a table top quality. Its not fancy, but the paint is where its supposed to be.

That's the worst application of paint for a 'professional' job I have seen in my life.

Jeezus. For someone to charge $65 for that is outrageous. They look like someone spent 10 minutes painting them blindfolded for a bet.

The pics of them before you sent them off just make it even more unbelievable.

$65 should guarantee what? About 4 hours work? No way in hell has that happened.

Yeah, thats what dissapoints me, I figure those figures has maybe 1-2 hours on the hive tyrant and the carnifex. Thats 25-30$ an hour, and theres not much done to them. I guess thats how painting companies make money, fast jobs?

To clarify the flyrant, and zoanthrope shots are my work, I think I could do alot better on the flyrant, but the details are crisp and the colors are clean. I really like the zoanthrope, the model lets you do nice jobs on them.
