Been trying to come up with a decent Air Cav list for my IG army, now that the new codex and Valkyrie are out. Here is what I have come up with, on my first pass:

The air cav army will mostly be for fun, but I also would like to win sometimes, so I am open to suggestions =) I want everything mounted in valks however.

If I dropped all of the power weapons and Bastonne I could get another Commissar Lord - I am not sure if that is a good trade though. That list would look like:

Spend 15 points to make your list 1850 and give your poor vet sergeants power fists

Instead of the second commissar lord you could give your vets a doctrine such as demolition or grenadiers. I would highly recommend the grenadiers since carapace armour does make a huge difference.

Also you could take a Company command squad. I think you havent taken one because of the lack of valkyries, but you could deep strike your storm troopers (they deploy via an unmodified flyer valkyrie in relation to the fluff of the army)

Good point on the Power fists.. I totally spaced, and forgot that they could take fists.

I have considered deep striking the storm troopers instead of mounting them in Valks, but I'm not sure if getting a CCS is all that worthwhile in this list. The orders would not do much for me, and about the only real benefit would be the astropath. I might have to playtest it both ways and see which works best.

Yeah I was thinking astropaths, but the CCS is a cheap shooting and assaulting squad. The orders aren't so powerfull, but you can make the CCS's weapons twin linked with a leadership roll

How about this configuration;

CCS (Orders = win sauce & perhaps creed to make units to mirror the valkyries mobility abilities)

Infantry platoon with PCS & 2x Infantry squads - with some maner of tasty useful weapon loadout. I recommend flamers for the PCS & either AC/GL, Las/plas or flamers/priest for the infantry squads.
Oh & creed allows you to deploy the ccs behind your infantry lines (or just towards to egde/away from the fray) and still be able to reach out 24" to TL those grav-shooting melta vets. I know 3 bs4 meltas at 6" will guarentee a vehicle boom (or so ive read) but its gonna be apparent that scatter makes this dangerous & unrealible, to get so close.

Veterans with meltas. 1-2 squad.

&

1 vendettas - ccs go here

3 vendettas - infantry platoon go here

1-2 valkyries. - vets go here.

Some other manner of armor (you only have 3 fast attack choices); So a leman russ.

This allows you good shooty. It also allows for decent deployable troop formations. Add in commissars to the infantry squads for staying power.

Oh - in terms of fighty, itll be your imperial 5pt guardsmen that wins the day. All infantry (bar sub-humans) have basically the same stats with a slight variation on WS (Which can be solved with the introduction of a priest). This means there isnt any awesome attackers, meaning you'll just need lots of attacks. The imperial guardsmen is the best guy to do this - Although with air-cav, you cant make blob-squads. Although (countering) with creed, you could choose to deploy some valkyries empty & give scouts to a 20-30man blob with a commissar & priest (< Which, btw, is the best assault option I can think of.)

I do like the 2 commissars to add a extra punch to the army(yes they shouldnt be in combat)

I like the 2nd cause you have everything in planes.
