IMHO the french ones are cooler and painted better

Just shows there are GDs and then there are GDs. That's understandable. For the UK competition, most of Europe's top talent travels.

Some nice entries though!!, but how many would place in UK or France, I dunno.

Rather bland and dull, especially with the dioramas. I guess its not as exciting as it used to be.

Most of those aren't even as interesting as a few years ago, the only interesting conversions were the rat giant and the defiler.

Why does it seem like some of the honerable mentions look better than the winners??

Some neat stuff in there, but I think I have to agree with gennadius, that the French Golden Demons seemed a whole lot cooler and better painted. At least I found myself more inspired by the french entries.

I had similar feelings when I saw them at Games Day. Though I'm not sure how you job some of that stuff, some were more inventive conversion but some had better paint.

Though the DKOK and Tank Destroyer looked better in person than in pictures.

While most all were not up to French GD quality, they were not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Better than anything I've seen at my local shops.

Anyway, I really dig the Falcon. Great color choices.

Theres some nice stuff in there, a couple things interested me in the hounorable mentions but the slayer is really really really mediocre.

Well at least Dave Taylor got something for his entry good job Dave.

I really hope this is a case of the pictures not doing the models justice. Very underwhelmed by the winners. The Nurgle Mutants that won the SS....seriously? That won? Compare that against previous winners or Euro winners, it just doesnt seem to be in the same class at all. Again, I hope its bad photography.

The Stalk Tank was okay.

The striking scorpion and the Crimsons Fist mini in the honourable mentions section look very good. I gotta echo the sentiment that compared with what just came out of GD France these do look less - but French painting is very very good and I imagine time consuming.

I'll wait till GW put's up their pics - hopefully in better quality - to get a better idea.

Was the striking scorpion a wraithlord conversion or meant to be inquisitor scale?

I also agree with FieronThor, that both the SS and the Crimson Fist seemed well done, but did not score...

Wow... rough Demon

There's nothing bad in there but absolutely nothing makes me scream GD/slayer winner.

Not as good as the French GD.

It was ok but nothing was really overly great IMHO.

Also one quick question does that DKOK rough rider really belong in the 40k large monsters section?


Oh and the diorama section was rather bad IMHO as there was nothing really eye popping.

I liked the free hand on the space wolf terminators shoulder pad.

Hey, is there some rule about entering the same model in a demon contest? That ship in the honorable mentions is also in the Baltimore 2008 open.

if the mini has won a demon before, it is not eligible...

i understand that everybody loves the minis from french GD, but it's not the only style of painting out there...
i'm not a huge fan of hyper-realism...
it looks good, but i'm not inspired to paint like the french...
some of us still like the 'eavy metal style of painting...
maybe we're a dying breed...

Kind of a let down. I mean, the painters and modellers were good, but these models weren't that special, they mostly missed that spark!

Sooooo...l what am I missing here in the SS winner. I am trying to figure out why it placed, much less won its' category and then the sword. Just about everything else really looked better than it and even some of the honorable mentions. Did this kid's (he looks like he should be in the youngbloods, and even then their stuff looked better) Parents somehow pay off the judges?

I like the Masque the most!

The NMM on that SM command squad is pretty good, especially alongside that color choice.

And TWO Blood pact units in the same GD is always nice to see.

Other than that though, it certainly was a rather unimpressive showing.
