Thank you all for the very kind words! I'll try to live up to them.

Mini update: threw on a coat of Primer, with a heavy silver drybrush to bring the details back out. That first coat of primer does wonders to tie all the different parts together and make one cohesive Waaagh-Machine. I sprayed on some Vallejo Silver (I absolutely love Vallejo's air metallics) to basically block out the areas that will be exposed metal.

I wouldn't even call this a basecoat, this is pre-paint. I'm blocking out areas and bringing the details back out after a solid black primer coat.

The plan right now:
- Heavy weathering and rust on the feet, working up the legs
- Alternating weathered metal panels with some black painted panels (with edge wear and tear)
- Figure out what I want to do with the shoulder Rhino. Leave it as a marine chapter? Painted over with flames? I don't know yet, but I have time.
- Grease, Oil, Soot, Dirt, Dust, you get the idea
- BLOO FLAMEZ (check previous pages for an idea of where my head is at)

That's it. Mini update. Time to get my hands dirty!

Thanks for the kind words, all!

My rust recipe:

Black undercoat
Heavy Silver dry brush (I use a dark silver, P3 Pig Iron or GW Leadbelcher)
Selective Drybrush P3 Umbral Umber
Selective Stipple P3 Bloodstone
Selective Sponge/Stipple P3 Khador Red Highlight
Heavy wash 50/50 Nuln Oil + Agrax Earthshade

The “selective” layers are important. You can not be too clean, or regular, or formulaic here. The trick is to be random and organic. Heavy in some areas, lighter in others. You want them to overlap but not completely. You still want to see bits of each layer peaking out, especially the black base coat. If you cover too completely or too evenly, your rusted metal appearance transforms instead to a milk chocolate appearance.

The wash mix is equally important: Black to shade the recesses and seams, pulling back to the base coat, and the warmer brown to keep that rust alive.

Hope that helps!

Quick update:

Gorkanauts suffer from the same problems as the Stompa - Stompy doesn't have to mean Dumpy!

I figure if my Stompa is modeled after ole Ghaz himself, then he should have a proppa attack squig. I give you: The Squiganaut!
(very very early WIPs, framing out the structure first, and then I can go bonkers on fiddly detail work)

Quick update for #wipwednesday

Got a second leg built out - both legs have 1/8" brass rod run throughout for strength. Makes for great structure, but hugely complicated the build process.

Also started shaping up a little Squiggy tail, courtesy of a drop pod.

Need to sort out basing, pose the legs, and finish out the toes on the second foot. Then it's detail time! Spikes, exhausts, armor plates, more exhausts... it's going to be glorious!

Cute but terrifying, just as it should be! The proportions are just right, and the use of parts is genius.

Time for another wednesday update:

Mouser ripped through his latest chew toy, and is toying with whats left. Thanks Imperial Guard!

Balance is proving to be an issue, as center of mass isn’t exactly in line with both legs. With the brass rods support and a healthy amount of plastic cement, it *should* hold up. For now, I rig supports while glue dries.

With basing situated, and the main structure mapped out, its time to jump into details! More to come...

I suspect a pair of screws, gently drilled in from the UNDERSIDE of the base would help you a lot. Then, lead weights (again, under) the base to add hidden counter-balancing.

Omg. Teek. That tank busta boy is what inspired me to make mine. I’ve always loved that conversion. I have the picture saved on my phone for reference. And the mouser. Holy hell that thing is AWESOME!!!! Glad to see you back in the orks.

Cheers lads!

@Briancj: Indeed, thanks for the tip. I’m looking at additional ways to anchor it down, like some sneaky screws and brackets.

@schank23: Thanks mate! It’s wonderful to hear that an ember from my Waaagh can start a fire in the heart of another Ork Warboss!

Small update: Let the details begin! (a.k.a - This is the fun part!)

Hips (don’t lie) have some mechanical detail
Left foot has toes and a raptor claw
Mouth has some “mouth webby” cables
And I’ve started adding TEEF! More teef coming, don’t worry

Bonus: the wood platform he’s standing on is the beginnings of my display base for this years Armies on Parade! Giving myself a deadline to get these bad boys (and various other old old projects) painted up!

More to come!

Been a minute, done some detail work.

Front teef, or what's left of 'em. I figure some poor Grot bolted front teef on "ta look scary" before they realized where the bullets were coming from. RIP Teef.

Little bit more leg detail, cabling to cover up imperial skulls, and knee detail courtesy of toy truck wheels from the ole bits box.

EXHAUSTS! I picture this thing absolutely belching oily black smoke as it sprints across the field. Exhaust bits courtesy of a Knight, that new floaty Primaris Tank, and I think an old Rhino.

Tail spikes too, like an Alligator.

Gotta get the eye lenses sorted out next, then it's nearly ready to prime...
