quote from vitki on the 1st page
Alderwood Mall, WA -
I have called in twice now to ask if they had something. Once was for the new Space Hulk, once for the Tyranids codex. When I drove out there, I was told that the copy they had was the store copy and they had no more stock. Like I would have been asking to just come and see the things instead of wanting to buy them?
This place is notorious for Unsavory encounters in my experience.
Back when the catachan battle force was first being stocked here I came in to buy the IG codex, I'm greeted at the door and being fairly new to the hobby and store I ask for directions to the Codex, the guy working thare Promply walks me Over hands me the Codex and assist me in finding a 20 man box set of catachans. I get home and crack the box open and go to open my codex to see how I want to assemble the minis to find that I have the Rundown, raggedy, torn, and smudged store copy. wasn't happy, to say the least, but figured it was an accident or an oversight by the employee. till about a week or 2 later when I go back for the Catachan Codex and the same douche tried to hand me the Store's copy (in the same distasteful Condition) to me.
Fool me Once shame on you.....
after that (and some rather poor sales pitch attempts I could have lived without) I pretty much stopped going to my local GW , any time Ive had to be there I'm Really Matter of fact with what I need and get out asap. I guess just about every GW experience I've had Is along these lines, until I could grow the Paltry amount of facial hair I'd like to think is a beard sprouted
Just realized my Friends cousin Commandeered 2 battle forces and atleast 3 more box sets of catachans and a some chims from me after I fell out for a while

My worst experience has nothing to do with the store in question, which is pretty good actually, I guess Australia has better customer service than America or England!? Anyhow, I went in the other day on a sunday, I'm normally a middle of a weekday visitor because I can't stand little kruddlers running around me while I shop, but I had too because no free time. So I walk in, and am confronted by a seething mass of twelve year old kids all playing and screaming as kids do, all three staff desperately shouting over the top of them to coordinate the games. I push past some chubby kid eating ICE CREAM in the store to reach for some Nobz for my mate when I hear this ungodly snapping sound behind me. I turn and look and there is a kid with a sprue from the Ork stomper kit and he is literally snapping away the excess sprue sections with his hands. SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, I swear I nearly fell over in shock. I'm just about to get a Baneblade and am planning it out in stages how to build it, let alone pay for it, and theres this spoilt little bugger just ripping apart a two hundred dollar kit! What's he going to do? Build the whole thing in the store! Good Luck kid!
God, I'm chokin on my own rage here!
Okay, rant done!
Still, great store when its not the weekend. Hate the playa not the game!

My experiences are pretty lame compared to others but here goes:
I'm browsing and one of the staff comes up to my and asks what I'm collecting. I reply Salamanders and he says that the new LoD would make great veterans. A week later I go in again and the exact same bloke asks me the exact same question and gives me the exact same response. At least I got to look at the Legionnaires though.
Ages ago when me and my brother were kids, we were playing a match in store. My brother was up against a chaos army and had just wounded some of the others guy's maruader horsemen and wanted to resolve it but couldn't as the other player was being mock-rapped on the floor by another player. The staff also mocked my brothers orange and white elves (although in hindsight that was an awful colour scheme).
Lastly, when they were celebrating 25 years of warhammer or whatever, they had been giving out raffle tickets with purchases weeks before for a big prize draw on the day. I went along with my 1 ticket to find that all the regular beardlings had amassed 20 odd tickets so I had no chance of winning.
Apart from that, my local GW is pretty good although I hate venturing in as its full of obnoxious 10 yr olds.

I once played a game at the Battlezone in Independence, Mo. The smell was nightmarish. I burned by clothes and washed all my Eldar with a toothbrush. And I'm a total slob, by the way. That store has since closed, but some say that Nurgle himself came and rewarded the owner with Daemonhood.

I've actually been my own worst gaming experience: I had a new player ask if he could proxy models with non-GW pieces and I told him he was welcome to use any of my models as long as he let me know ahead of time so that I could bring them in for him, but I'd prefer him not using peanut butter jars as drop pod substitutes. I proceeded to table him first turn with Blood Angels. After the game, I realized I was being a douche and offered that he could use anything to substitute and he didn't have to wait for me to bring my models in for him
I've also had a 10 year old kid dry-hump the table in victory after smashing my empire gun-line with his vampire counts. My friend is very proud of his 10-year old son for doing this (not sure if this counts as "bad" sportsmanship since I laugh my @$$ off at the memory of this game any time I think of it)

When they were out of paper towels in the bathroom. I got some towels from the store manager's front desk. However, how many people in the crowded gamestore that day used the bathroom before me and didn't wash their hands because there weren't any paper towels?
the world may never know.

Strange. I'm in a variety of honors classes, and I maintain friendship with all of the "Popular" Kids, but I'm not sure if they know how big of a dork I am. A lot of people know I still play pokemon and yugioh, and dungeons and dragons, but I don't think they ever judge me because of it. Maybe I'm just really lucky.
If anything, they think it's cool that I paint and they ask general "woah, how long did this take?" sort of questions. I think people who complain about how "being a dork makes you lose friends" are dumb. It's a result of your own isolation from others, and your embarrassment of your own interests. Don't blame your hobby, blame yourself.

my worst gaming store experience....
I had just come from work (had a 9 hour shift at burger king) and went directly to the game store. I'm a larger guy, and I gotta say, I smelled fierce. Not wanting to be known as the stinky guy, I went to the bathroom, and considered my options to purge my horrific smell. I note that they have an orange bathroom deodorant spray. SOOOO, I take the spray, hit both of my underarms, and walk out, hoping it would help.
well, apparently I didn't read the warning that you shouldn't get the spray in contact with skin. it started out as an itch, and halfway through the first turn of a game I was playing, I was in serious burning agony. I went back to the bathroom again, took some paper towels, wet them down, and attempted to sponge down the burning areas... but it didn't help much. This was not a pleasant experience. I've since gotten a job where I don't get so damn stinky after a shift (desk job tech support vs 100 degree kitchen work) so its not a problem anymore... but this was a seriously unpleasant experience.

My GW is actually pretty good there are some odd people that go there but no one obnoxious most people go there to play a game or buy something as there is limited painting/building space and most of the kids that go there listen to the advice of the more experienced players.
But my worst experience was with this guy we had in charge for 2 weeks when the normal guy went on holiday he wouldn't let us do anything, no gaming, no painting, no building, he also wouldn't let anything non-gw in the store and if you weren't going to buy anything he would ask you to go.

My worst one would be playing against a guy who cheated throughout the game and then when I got a narrow victory, proceeded to scream abuse at me.
I Laughed it off and went back to packing up my models. His reaction was to try to punch me
I ducked the first one and asked him to back off, he threw a second which I slapped away and told him to back off, he threw a third, at which point I hit him. One punch knockout. I went back to packing my models. Staff phoned the police and he was taken to hospital and then arrested. The staff had heard me repeatedly telling him to back off and
after the third thrown punch it was seen as self defence.

I haven't changed my deck in months, I just lay with a couple friends over breakfast, but I guess that counts as playing.
A couple months back, when I'd just started 40k, I played against a marines player who was running dreadnought swarm. He was drop podding them all in. So I ask him, "Hey, what the hell are you rolling first turn for? Deep striking units come in on the second turn!" He says "No, they have a special rule"
I didn't play marines, so I had no idea how drop pods worked at the time. BUT THAT"S NOT IT! When he was deepstriking, he would never roll for scatter. I asked him why he wasn't rolling for scatter, "Yeah,uh, drop pods have a special rule."
So yeah, naturally I lost the game, on account that it was my second game. It's okay though, I stole his kayvaan shrike model, Bwahahaha. Don't leave your HQ on the floor next time, douchebag!

Wow.
I think this might be the first time, in one of these threads, someone mentioned themselves as being the "worst experience" for people.
I mean, because you didn't know that there IS a special rule for SM Drop Pods to come in on first turn & that they DO have wargear that eliminates scatter for reserves, you found it appropriate to STEAL something of his, rather than be honest & turn it in to an employee.
Yeah. Sounds to me like the problems were ALL because of him.

the room went silent. all 4 other people stair at me and one says "your married?!"
I kinda felt insulted but at the same time the guy who asked me was about 300 pounds with bottle cap glasses painting eldar. All of a sudden the hole mood changed they were all like "is she any good?" "most girls play SoB then Loose intrest" "what does she field"
I was afraid to bring her into the store. I dont need drew carry humping my wifes leg to be her first memory of GW.

I feel sorry for any of womankind who are made to walk into a Gamesworkshop store. In more... usual hobby shops, it's not so bad. Most people are respectable, but judging from the GW in Chinook Centre, the majority of people who hang out there are far from respectable, being consumed by their 'hobby,' choosing to make a lifestyle out of it, many of whom would consider even talking to a woman something of legend.
