There was a garage sale at the former owner of my old FLGS's today. I picked up something like 30 grotz, 17 deffkoptas, around 20 tankbusta conversions, a whole mess of boyz and at least one AoBR Warboss (all painted). There is a few more other models in a junk box that I got... we'll see what's all in there. On the necron side of things, a box of warriors on the sprue. I also got the Blood Angels cards for Thing #1. Pretty good for $100.
He's saying that everything that doesn't sell this weekend or next weekend are getting trashed. I'm hoping to still be able to pick up a Stompa (he had 7), and a couple of battlewagons (I stopped counting at 9). If nothing else, giving things to me is better than throwing them away. The paint on most of the models is pretty good and I don't necessarily feel the need to repaint (he painted professionally while running the store, but there are a few in there that he must have gotten second or third hand). Everything will need to be rebased though.
Continued the Extra Life commitment:
3.5 hours of Lord of the Rings LCG (4 player) Ouch... just an ouchy loss.
1 hour of Castles of Mad King Ludwig again. Won by a single point! I'm seriously hoping for this for Christmas.
45 minutes of Smuggler's Derby. Wow, very lethal! We didn't make it a full lap. Then again, everyone choose a small based ship. All 4 players had a lot of fun, even though I flew a TIE Destroyer with Ion Cannon onto the board when a K-wing got too big of a lead. (The K-Wing loaded up on Proximity Bombs... seriously nasty for the A-Wing that flew right into them on turn 1).
N, C, and I got one mission in on the Heroes of the Aturi Cluster campaign. We managed to save the rebel operatives in their damaged HWK-290. I've moved up to PS 3... I think my next thing is to upgrade my shields... I keep ending up nose to nose with a squad of TIEs at least once per game. :-(

Ok... from the garage sale, I've picked up 1 Stompa (Thanks Gits!!!) 5 Battlewagons, 40 some grots, 15+ Deffkoptas, 15+ Big Choppa Nobs, 15+ Boyz with Rokkits (SCORE!), a metal Killa Kan an AoBR Warboss, and various other Boyz.
Internet has been out of order at my house since Thanksgiving! Snowed in with the kids and my wife has been snowed out (at her parent's house) for two days. (Sanity has been hanging by a thread)
I spent a lot of that time pinning various pieces on the Stompa. I literally had it come apart in my hands after I got it home. I also managed to rebase the AoBR Warboss. It's a really nice paintjob, I'm glad that I got it. Pictures of that and the Stompa are on my to-do list.
So... I'm hoping for a new Ork book

Here's the Stompa. WIP

Here's the Warboss. It is some of his best work. The base is mine.

Love that stompa! Been wringing my hands over getting mine done. I can now take inspiration from yours! Nice work on the warboss too!

Just to be clear... at this point, they aren't my work. These are how they came to be from the garage sale, but I like them a lot.

The stompa needs some of the red that the rest of my vehicles are going to be using. They also need the silver etc. But yeah... I'm happy with where it is as a starting point. He used a salt weathering technique, and since all of my other vehicles are either bare plastic or primer I plan on continuing there.
I've spent about 2 hours regluing and pinning various pieces here. It did just fall apart in my hands when I got it home. I'm not putting any effort in disguising the pins... I figure Meks are just going to weld and weld and weld until the pieces stay together.
The warboss is also his work. I rebased it because... yeah... it also just fell off. I am really glad that the warboss was in the junk box I grabbed. Credit where it is due, the warboss represents the previous owner's best painting.

Visited the gaming stores around my mother's house while I was up there . One was clearance out their Games Workshop stuff (a growing trend). I picked up a box of Death Company for my son's army and a box of Immortals for my Necrons.
I also picked up one each of the TIE/FO and the T-70 expansions, and some flock so that I can finish by Blood Bowl Orks and Norse.
On the Christmas front, my wife bought me Qwirkle and the Battlestar Galactica board game. Looking at getting my year in review done soon.

Finally, Here is my HWK that I painted last fall. I really like how this model turned out.

I feel ready to spring into a flurry of activity. I have 5 boxes of Necrons sitting on my shelf... I probably push through them pretty quickly, but I don't really have any place to store them.
I have 6 battlewagons either primed or in bare plastic. Problem there is I'm feeling a lot of self doubt about painting big vehicles like that. I'm not really happy with how my Ghost Arks turned out. My Stompa is salt weathered, and I'd like to match. That job was done with an airbrush... something I don't have.

Nice looking HWK!

For the Stompa, since you don't have an airbrush, what about either spray paint with the salt weathering technique? Or maybe blue tack/poster putty/painters tape and drybrushing?

Thanks for the comments, Cleatus! I think I'm going to need to use the rattle can... A bit worried that the pressures are going to be enough to shoot the salt off. I'll try it on one of the trukks I have. I'll wait until the weather is better. That'll be my goal this summer... the 6 battle wagons and 2 trukks I have.

In the mean time, I'll be focusing on some necrons I have. I've already primed and basecoated three Tombblades. After that, I have 36 warriors and 3 immortals... I'll be doing that for the ICHPC2016.

Three finished Tombblades

I'm debating leaving the stands clear, or doing them like my spyders'. Admittedly, they are low table top. I may revisit them later (don't we always plan on revisiting things later?)

Next up, some warriors.

I've been neck deep in X-Wing the last couple of weeks...
I'm the TO for our local Store's Championship... we expect between 30 and 40 players... it'll be the largest X-wing event in the state!

End of the month will see another Epic game day. Several have mentioned that they are excited to have it again. Me too!

Been crafting Flayed Ones... warrior bodies and arms cut off the gauss flayer. Blades cut off gauss flayers, warscythes, and gauss blasters. Completed three and then I run out of plastic glue. I guess it's been 5 years since I bought glue... I can afford another one I guess. I need to replace the paint I use for Necron base color too.
Plan is to make some green stuff flesh to drape on them.
Boy, is this fun!

PROGRESS!!!
10 more Warriors

Here is what I'm working on right now...

I've built 6 flayed ones, and plan to build 25 more in the next few months. The flesh is a technique that I totally stole from Camkierhi ... he used wet cardboard to make leather straps. I used wet paper to make the flesh. The next batch will have more holes in the paper.
Suggestions and comments wanted! Thanks.

I'm running out of necron blades. The ones off the gauss flayers just don't look good... they aren't big enough. Now that my little brother is doing necrons, I may be able to snitch some from his bitz bin. He's going with Praetorians, so there are plenty of blades for me to grab.
I'm looking at doing maybe some Freddy Krueger claws with flayer blades... they do make decent off hand blades, just not primary ones.

So I primed up a metal Ghazghull that I picked up on ebay this week (now that the weather has turned warmer). Less then 12 hours later, I found it in pieces on my work room floor. I have my suspicions, but I have 2 of my children who are currently having difficulty telling the truth. So, my hobby so far has been rebuilding him.
Much like the car restorer who finished painting a 1964 corvette only to have the wind blow in dust as he finished the clearcoat, all the work I did before is just preparation for the final coat. The superglue had gone fragile so scraping that off allowed me to get rid of a lot of the gapfill. It wasn't pinned, so I pinned the arms. Overall, it now feels more like it is mine... which is good.
I have picked up some of the legs for the giant spyders on the Obylesk. Those legs go great for my Flayed Ones. Freddy Krueger arms are in full swing, so I have another 9 Flayed Ones built and primed for the Independent Characters Hobby Progress challenge. Half-done with the Flayed Ones, and I'm one month ahead.
Sadly, we've had to repair the clothes dryer and our Chimera (a 2013 Town and Country) has problems with the sliding door. There goes some of my fun money this month.

Good news! After paying for the dryer troubleshooting, I'm able to save over $150 by fixing it myself. Not bad for turning about half a dozen screws. Also, our van was still under the extended service plan. No cost to us. Score.
