Time, gentlemen, please! Start finishing up your drinks and move outside...

Huge thanks to all who participated, especially our final 5:
Camkieri
Grimdork
Viktor Von Domm
TP^TC Deputy Manager
Littetower

Commiserations to those who didn't quite make the deadline, we'd still love to see your finished articles!

Thanks for making this an incredibly difficult decision process for myself and my fellow judges, also!

Now it's your turn - the public vote!

Remember, you don't need to abide by the ratings of the contest - just pick your favourite! I do strongly suggest that you look at full galleries if you have time. Many thanks again,

Over the river, through the woods

sorry i'm a little slow on the upswing, but i broke a finger 2 days ago and it hasn't been a barrel of monkeys trying to stay working without pain medication.

great work from everyone--even those who didn't actually finish by the deadline.

having competed and now judged these contests, i can say that judging can be a conundrum, and probably the more difficult of the two.

as an aside, i would suggest to anyone who wants to should post a link to their WIP and/or completed project galleries here, now that the contest is over. the contest page usually gets a lot of traffic - almost 6,000 hits for this contest thread alone - and it's good, free advertising.

looking forward to the next project (and hopefully it's far-in-the-future deadline, so i can heal and compete again!)

Mostly, on my phone.

Right, well then, this is it!

First thanks to all for participating, and my patient and helpful fellow judges GawdamSumbish and Yggdrasil. It was very tough and there was no small amount of discussion, debate and argument We weren't 100% in agreement but a consensus was reached.

So, onto the order:

Winner
Spoiler:

Viktor Von Domm

Congratulations! In the end, it was the scope, ambition and interpretation of the contest that really swung it for Vik. The judges were particularly impressed with all the little details that went into the build and how Vik pushed himself as a modeller. As a criticism, some of the paintwork on the character models could have been tidier.

Runner-Up
Spoiler:

Camkieri

I cannot stress how close it was between the top 2 - a single point separated them. The judges agreed that, in terms of painting, Cam's was outstanding and certainly the build itself made us all laugh. The hinge mechanism and separate floor were great touches also. Could've used more rivets though

Honorable mention
Spoiler:

Littetower
This was a great build, and probably the most playable of all the pieces. The painting was great, too; where this one fell down was it didn't quite encapsulate the theme in the way the others did.

And the People's Choice:
Spoiler:

Camkieri - very well deserved!

Thanks to all who participated, for making this the most stressful judging experience ever, and all who voted, commented and contributed! To the participants, if you pm we can discuss prizes etc, and specific critiques of your entry if you wish. On to round 16!
Cheers,
graven

Nicely done everyone. This is probably been the most keenly watched competition (by me) in a long time. Such an impressive array of talent on display...

I'll be damned, didn't see this coming...

I'm currently too perplexed to come up with something coherent...all I can say is thank you judges, and thanks to my fellow competitors for giving me a good run for my money...

I mostly worked in secret the last days, to keep a lid on the whole z' theme...also...last week I have been a bit quieter due to having started a job...so I guess life is pouring me from a big cornucopia...

I am really floating now^^ gotta see what can be done for a new theme...but I am open for suggestions nevertheless

Again: many thanks to all who have been part of this cool event!

Yours truly, vik

Not where I should be

Congratulations sir. Truly well deserved. I felt you really pushed yourself.

Well done LT as well. Though I think all the finalists work was brilliant.

Deputy had a lot going on and considering how short a time he did a great job.

Grims is fantastic. Even looks like a thrown together shack. Excellent work. Loved The extras as well.

LT cracking use of bits. Inspired piece. But I have seen you do better.

And that is why Vik won for me as well. He pushed his own bar up.the weathering and effects are brilliant. Fantatic composition well executed.

Lets see what the next one brings.

Took me some time, but I finally made it back!!

Congrats Vik, well deserved! Packed with action and detail.

Cam, once again, a masterful piece. Nothing to add but more praise to it!

Grim and TP^DC, great pieces both, I'd be proud to have them on my shelf, sorry, table (I don't get to play much, )

Great round, Graven, thanks again!

As for mine, thanks a lot for the votes and comments to all. I indeed went for a playable piece over a full dio or display piece this time; it workes well as such, but that definitively can't match the all-out work of the winning builds!

Paradigm wrote:...Littletower's is probably the one I'd most want on a gaming table as functional terrain, with the raised areas, LoS blocking aspect and the fact it occupies a good space without making it inaccessible.

Went for Littletower's in the end for the reasons above, but congrats to everyone!

Thanks, Paradigm! "the one I'd most want on a gaming table", I can hardly think of higher praise .

GrimDork wrote:Littletower, very playable set-up. You've made the base materials look uniform and functional.

Thank you! Nice build, though I don't think I'd actually want to eat there...

TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote:Littletower - your connecting hubs are really cool and agree that I would definitely pick your's as tabletop terrain.

Ditto. And good job to you too!

Good turn out, nice work everyone, and well done to the judges.

Vik: Congratulations. Your turn to be the "bride" and not the bridesmaid.
It is a lovely piece. Really well made and designed. Nice story-telling too.
Wood (both burnt and not) is good.
Really like the overgrown stones.
Where did the mantrap come from?
Keep working on your painting and bring it up to the level of your modelling. Then you'll be unbeatable.

Cam: Congratulations to you too.
So many nice details and great job on the paintwork.
Can't really add anything. You got my vote for the Monty Python reference.

LT: Really solid and very playable pieces. Great use of the junction boxes.
Short of some scenery bases, I can't think of anything to add.

Grim': Yay for tentacles. Glad my comment inspired you to build.
The tentacle egg things look good, and nice work on the graffiti.
Something that has only just hit me and something to keep in mind for the future; the window could do with a frame, even if it's just painted on around the piece.

TP^DC: Good job. Lots of details.
Nice work on the mesh flooring and under-floor details.
Work on disguising/avoiding your brushstrokes to take it to the next level. I can't really help with this much as I use a different medium, but try when doing "dirty"/streaky washes to add water to the surface alternately to the actual black or brown wash and let it run under gravity and spread via diffusion, rather than trying to spread it with your brush. Almost as if you are trying to wash away the black paint by running water over it. Keep most of your brush movement in the vertical plane to avoid disturbing this look.

Congrats Vik , sorry for the delay in wishing that.

Also does this mean that we will finally have your Lego to tabletop challenge you spoke of a long time ago? Where we first build it in lego and then have to build it from scratch.
