What's everyone's thoughts on it?

I only ask because I came across some old Bauhaus Warzone models that I really like the look of. The bases are the same size as a standard GW Mini and was thinking of including them as Storm Troopers in my Secondary Imperial Guard Army (The basis behind my guard is very rag-tag militia. I got Catachan models and painted them all different colors like they were all just street urchins and gangers banded together.)

So, yes? no? spoon?

I pick spoon. Seriously though I personally don't think it matters as surely its the same type of thing as if you're opponent or you fielded scratch builds, wich are for all intents and purposes non GW models. I could be talking rubbish but I personally think as long as they look cool and don't mess with the rules its fine, but I imagine asking your opponents permission is a must.

I found these pics online of the guys just to show you all what I mean. Here's two of'em I got off of Google Images

They look pretty sweet, And they don't look that far removed from the Games Workshop minis, I can't see any reasonable person having a problem with you fielding those as substitutes for standard models.

In a friendly game environment, I see no issues as long as "What you see is what you get." In a tournament environment, you need to check with the organizers to verify if the models are legal to use, as many GW touranments require GW and/or FW models only.

Personally, I use the play Warzone back in the 90's; I still love the Mutant Chronicles setting, and the mini's are awesome. I use my Imperials as Guard troops, just because I can (but not in tournaments), and find any excuss to field my AI-only Doomtrooper army (yet again, not in tournaments).

Yeah, I had originally had a whole bunch of the plastic Imperials but gave them to a friend of mine as supplicants to his Guard Army he's starting. More or less just place holders for him. In digging them out was when I came across my old Bauhaus guys I was starting up. I can see their guns resembling maybe a lower-tech bolter so I thought it could fit decently.

I still use my Capitol Martian troops in my SM army as scouts (with either pistol/ccw or bolter, depending on models).

As IG, I'd have no problem with them. At most of our tourneys, the TOs would have no issue with them. Some of the larger ones , might have an issue, but they're just as likely to tell GW to feth off and take their prize sponsorship with 'em (and then get PS from another distributor).

I agree of course. But the word "reasonable" is key here. There will always be coneheads of the "WHATDOYOUMEANYOUPLAYITONORDINARPAPER!!!11??" sort who will have a stroke over that sort of thing. Anyone that raises a fuss over that kind of thing you should not be playig with anyway...

Then of course their are the largely unenforceable "only play with our toys" rules that GW stores and tournies usually have in place. Rumor has it that I used to quitely poke a stick in the eye of GW by playing in tournies with an Enigma Miniatures space marine model hidden in my army.
edit: The old Citadel clone Enigma that GW put out of business...not the current one.

I play Praetorian IG so most people think my mini's aren't GW to begin with. And my Praetorian RR's are mostly Old Glory Zulu Lancers with GW horses and lances. I have never had a problem, including tournaments.

I heart SYR 8766

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Warzone! Cool!

I imagine that Cybertronic troops would be usable as Space Marines. But, did they ever come out with Cybertronic models, or was that megacorp featured only in the "Seige of the Citadel" board game?

I wouldn't have a problem, as long as the army 'fits' and looks good together. I have a planned IG army made from old Void Junkers models...

It would be even better if you could convert them to GW weaponry though, as that's the important bit of the WYSIWYG rules.

And of course, you can't use them in a GW store or a tournament.

Me personally, I would be fine with it, but like trench said there will always be "WHATDOYOUMEANYOUPLAYITONORDINARPAPER!!!11??" people

so, yeah i think that's a pretty cool idea

As long as the model used is similar in looks and style to the model it is meant to represent, and you can easily tell what it is without needing to constantly ask your opponent ... ... then yes, I'd be more than happy to allow you to play a model that wasn't GW.

Eg, using a small gundam model to represent a Tau crisis battle suit. Weapons on it looks like a plasma rifle and something else represents a missile pod for example. Its easy to know what it is and what the model represents. If you've never played Tau before then you wouldn't know the difference anyway lol

Ugh, generally I've only seen the two extremes. Either, one character (it is nicely painted and perfectly fits) or the ENTIRE army is non-GW. Of the 8 or so armies like this I've seen one (and only one) actually had a visual marker stating what they are. The other one were so confusing that i would dread (or dreaded) playing against them.

At our local indygt one of the guys (Luis Lopez I believe) creates an entire greenstuff army that has a smurf's theme. He is a great guy, but I have a tough time differentiating what each unit is. A+ for effort though.

No, they had models for Imperial, Capital, Mishima, Bauhaus and the daemonic followers as well as Cybertronic. The Cybertronic stuff could be used as marines, I guess. I used to play as Capital, so I still have the minis (but we had a big martian themed table and terrain). Prince August still sell bags of the plastic Warzone 2.0 Imperial trenchers/Bauhaus troops for around 20 pounds (80 minis).
Even had some vehicle models (Imp had a big walker, Bauhaus had a tank)

The really small ones (smaller than the 1/144 that I think you're talking about) might make some interesting looking Fire Warriors.

NON gw minis....can't play in GW store....can't do gw tournies.....might not be able to do other non-gw warhammer tournies.....

I don't like paying gobs of money for gw minis, but do because it is the game & game system I CHOSE to be part of, and don't enjoy playing against others that have an army that consists of ragtag 25mm, 28mm, and 30mm various manufactured and inconsistantly detailed minis.....

I dont think it would be okay in a tourney but you are not playing with the right people if they wouldnt let you play with your own models.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Then your opponent was not doing it right. I'll use a personal example here, although admittedly it's from WFB rather than 40k. I used to own a 28mm 15th century Medieval German army that I based for Warhammer Ancient Battles. It was made up of a mixture of Essex, Old Glory, Irregular, and the odd fantasy miniature. I used to play it as an Empire army and even played in a tourny at one of the FLGSs. I never once had an opponent complain. But the reason this happened was that I used troops that had a basic resemblance to what they represented (ie knights as knights, spearmen as spears, peasant Heerban as free companies, organ guns as hell blasters, etc) and I took the three minutes or so it took to declair what every unit in the army was to my opponent before the game began. Communication solves most proxy problems.

I think that only a tool would have issues with the use of non-GW figures in enviorments were they are permitted.

Speaking of such....

I admit I was one of those people

Hey, good for you!

I think the action figures would be about the right size for a crisis suit, although you might have problems getting the weapons consistent. Makes me wish that I had duplicates in my collection now. :(

No they do not. But I have played Fantasy with Avatars-of-War models in their stores and they have never said a word to me.
