This is my first attempt with an airbrush (bought one just for this Hierophant - as it would have taken ages to paint with a brush).

It took me five nights to paint it using GW (Tausept Ochre, Iyaden Darksun, Hormagaunt Purple, Chaos Black, Bleached Bone, Orchide Shade, Knarloc Green, Scorpion Green) and Reaper (Dark Skin, Red Brick, Bloodstain Red, Carnage Red, Pure White, Amethyst Purple) colours and GW washes (Badab Black, Ogryn Flesh, Devlan Mud).

The overall idea was to make a realistic looking tyranid, using mostly bone and dark brown, with sinew and flesh to add spot colour. I let the bone and "skin" go towards yellow and mixed purple and dark red tones into the brown.

I avoid using black and red as I tend to add a lot of blood and gore to my tyranids (this mini, once finished, will get its share too - to make it look even nastier).

The miniature is slightly converted (i replaced the bio cannons with extra scything talons as it don't feel right with bugs using guns...).

Hot damn thats sexy. I just got my biotitan a few days ago. I was lucky and got some extra pieces with it (an extra full head, spikes, and an extra set of guns). I was gonna run four biocannons and add 3 pairs of scything talons i have from cranifex kits.

But just wow on the paint job

The airbrushing really did pay off, amazing look to it, great detail, and the talong make it look alot better (lets face it, a big stompy bug doesent need to shoot)

Just on a side note, did you find any problems with its weight in areas?
mine tended to put alot of strain on its chest area, causing a talon to snap at one point and i had to add a support.

I'm of the same mind. Wanted to do the same conversion, but didn't know how to get ahold of extra scytal legs. Where'd you get yours?

Yes and no. Ie as the body is rather heavy I had to pin the legs for strength. This and having six legs (+ the tail also connecting with the table surface) seems to work. No noticeable sagging. Yet.

Sorry, cannot tell you (involves forbidden art) without forum (and possible GW/FW) Inquisitors giving me a hard time.

Thanks for the kind feedback.
Makes me want to finish my other 'phants.

One thing to mention about the Hierophant:
- I struggled with the head not drawing enough attention (despite an OK paint job and it being one of FWs best sculpts of all time).
When I read the May issue of WD there was some tips on how to make the face of the model the focus point.

Inspired by the article I figured I had to make something in the face area lighter, trying to draw the viewers eyes towards the face - so I repainted the "cheek talons", giving them the bony (light) part that leads to the face and voila, it worked (atleast I think it did). Thoughts?

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

"Forbidden art" , hmm I wonder what that could mean? I think that justifiable . I'm sure FW would consider this model a great ad for there products. That and the fact that FW refuse to sell individual parts , which is a shame as I think they could make a fortune if they did. This is Golden demon stuff.

Thanks for the positive feedback - although the 'phant is actually just painted to a high gaming standard.

FYI: To paint this large models using an airbrush is way too easy
You almost feel like cheating...
