I want to start collecting FOW models again after a 4 or 5 year hiatus.

Specifically I'd like to do german panzer or Panzergrenadier but want to know where to get info on order of battle.

I'd prefer to collect a 'point in time' display force rather than a gaming force.

One of the most common sources of info is the series of books published by Osprey:

The Flames of War campaign books (river of heroes, d minus one, etc.) are fairly good sources for info on historical forces.

After picking one from those sources, I find googling the name of a specific regiment gives more detailed information on organisation and structure than can be found elsewhere, and you can normally find photos of the specific vehicles you are modeling as well provided it is not a really obscure force.

I agree with Legoburner that the Osprey Campaign Series books provide pretty good Order of Battle information. I also look at the WWII databook, Nafziger's publications, the US Army War Department Handbook on German Military Forces (contains many inaccuracies but better than nothing), the US Army WWII history series of books, old Command Decision supplements, wargaming magazines, and online resources such as Feldgrau.com .

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.
