Well... we all know that orks are pretty much stupid, but how does their technology work..? surely they dont have the brains to make tanks, or fix broken looted ones.
is it because they have the odd smart ork? like most humans have no idea how aeroplanes fly?

or is it, which i heard somewhere some psychic thing they have, where if they think a tank works it does, like painting red stripes on it magically makes it go faster.

i have no idea, can anyone shed some light to the background of this races technology

Look at the size of 'em!

Orks have a natural affinity to Tech and they can pretty much fix anything in their own way.

Their psychic thing doesn't have a whole lot to do with this. Mostly just the color red.....

The reason why their tech works is because they believe it will. They have a physic force that affects things around them. But they can't control it, it just happens. Weirdboys are the few who can direct this force.

There are literally septillions of Orks in the Imperial galaxy alone. They are so numerous that their gods are the single most powerful entities in existence. Because their belief in their gods is so strong, it affects reality. By believing something will work, IT WILL WORK. By believing something is red, IT WILL GO FASTER. That's why Ork technology doesn't work for anyone but Orks; the person wielding it has to believe it works as much as an Ork, which is impossible.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Sheer orky faith. If they think it'll work, it probably will.

In which case, if an Eldar tried hard enough, could he get a big shoota to work?

No, because there are SEPTILLIONS of Orks in the Imperium ALONE. ONE GALAXY. That's a hell of a lot of faith in their gods.

The Eldar are lame and nobody likes them because their gods died. Orks are the best. They fight Space Marines and don't afraid of anything.

It failed because you are not an Ork. If you were it probably would have worked.

I agree that the whole 'believing makes it work' is correct but if they were using other races weapons and improving it surely they must have a basic understanding of guns etc.

According to both discriptions & other related fluff, it really seems to be a combination of the Gestalt psychic field and some inate ability. Their Genetics contains basic technical information, and a few orks, known as the Mekboyz, are able to tap in to this, and inately understand how to construct technology. We know this technology works from the Kroot, who gained much of their spacefaring ability by eating orks.

The psychic field won't allow them to do 'anything' per se. They cannot, for example, pick up a stick, point it at the enemy,go 'bang, bang' and have it shoot someone. It will, however, shortcut minor flaws, like bad wiring or allowing them to fire 7 shots out of a 6 shooter. (but not 8, that'd just be to many).

Somewhere between "MOrk iz 'da Orkiezt" and "No!, ya 'git, Gork is Orky'er-est". They managed to get more speed out of a trukk by painting in red.

They manage to smooth over minor technical impossibilities with sheer WAAGGGH! and thick skinned determination that their stuff should work.

In the current dex, it's stated that meks are born innately knowing just about everything they need to know about technology. It's, literally, genetic. Not just a predisposition, but a full on set of knowledge.

Just like how Painboyz are born innately knowing Ork Anatomy well enough to do open heart surgery with nothing but a spoon and some elbow grease (literal elbow grease, in some cases)

Also, sheer bloody WAAAGH helps out too.
