So, I was tossing around the idea of using those nifty FW Renegade Militia upgrades on my Cadians, but it hit me that because I am doing an AirCav list, that might be a bit off. So, I come here looking for opinions. I know technically, I can do it, because its all "Counts-As" anyhow. Still, does that seem off fluff-wise too much? I was going to get some etched brass for them, putting Chaos stuff on them if I went this route.

What do you guys think?

On a related note, I was weighing costs and figured I could always build Death Korps. The same question hit me, though. How often does the DKK use Valkyries? They seem more like an Armor-oriented group. Seems like a serious bending of fluff to get them into an AirCav list.

Thoughts?

If all else fails, I will just do the 39th Cadian and be happy!

Very recently renegade guard forces will be equipped exactly like loyalists so I would say go for it!

In my opinion, I'd rather see DKK across the table from me than chaos guards. The DKK models just look so good, and very few people actually play them due to FW resins being notoriously horrendous in quality and way too expensive.

I think valks would look great with DKK with the right markings and bits etc...

Death Korps would look way cooler than the renegade Guard. However, it would be unusual for the Death Korps to use Valks as it does not seem to tie in with their war of atrition sort of look at battle. As you say they are more armour based so maxing on the Leman Russ would be a better spend of cash.

Just some things to mull over,

Well, I am starting to think about the overall cost here and I think basic Cadians will suit me fine. Good Lord Forgeworld is expensive. Seriously.

Not only that, but you will literally have to return about 40% of what you buy from them and get replacement parts. They have some of the worst quality control of any company I have ever bought from, miniatures or not.

FW may have bad quality control, and as I've said on numerous occasions I wanted to kill someone because my Stormblade was so frustrating to get together, but I've never had to send for replacements.

Everything they do has been dealt with with patience, hot water, and a LOT of swearing.

...Meh. This is a tough decision. The costs of getting the army I want is basically in the ~$700 range. Are they good about sending replacements? If I am paying that much, no way am I going to expect less than perfection.

I am leaning so heavily to the Renegade Militia stuff. Just the thoughts of Renegade Valkyries with huge Chaos emblems across the top with a nice rusty-red paintjob. Just sounds awesome to me (and I would have SIX of them!).

What do you guys think? Should I just go with it and throw down for the Renegades? I have plenty of money made from commissions to buy it, but is it worth it? Do you guys think the AirCav will be competative on a local level?

...so many questions! If this hobby was cheaper, I wouldn't go out of my mind with making these decisions.

They refused to send me replacement parts once. It took five emails before they finally relented and the emails they wrote back to me were downright rude and obnoxious...

You will not be getting perfection. You will be getting A LOT of models badly cast with bubbles and massive imperfections. Let's also not forget how toxic resin is and how dangerous it is to work on if you try and sand it or break it into any kind of breathable particles. It will do a nice number on your lungs.

Renegade would be a good way to go I think...

Yeah the whole 'don't breath the particles' thing is a bit overblown. Yeah, ok, they have carcenogenic propeties, but c'mon, breathing any dust from any modelling thing isn't exactly good for you.

I will agree with the obnoxious E-mails though. When it took them 2 and a bit months to send me something that I paid £40 for 'express shipping' their responce was, and I quote "We owe you nothing". They're not just bad at customer service, they're downright unfriendly about it.

Rampaging Chaos Russ Driver

My wife ordered me An'ggrath. He never came. Good thing homeland security stopped the daemonic incursion. They sent a replacement asap.

My friend bought a khorne daemon prince + herald combo. He picked it up at gamesday and realized it was missing a horn. They sent one out to him through the mail.

There are other stories of good to excellent customer service in terms of replacement.

Say what you will about their quality control but they are great about fixing modeling mistakes and shipping mistakes.

EDIT:

To keep it on topic- I too have wondered how to add in valks as I love the models. I run a renegade list normally as my local players are down with the FW rules for them. I just don't know how aesthetically and fluff wise they could fit in a chaos list.

Well, aesthetically, I am going to do a beige color, dusty and sandy, with some rust and damage spots. Then, across the tops of the fuselage and wings, I am going to do a roughly painted reddish chaos logo (based on the stuff from IA6, like on their Leman Russ'). I will be doing counts-as IG, for rules, since I am not going to use IA for anything. Just not my deal.

I will probably go the Renegade route because it most suits me for what I am doing. DKK would be awesome, but its just not right for AirCav.

I'm building Chaos Renegade Militia and I'm quite surprised by the number of conversion opportunities. For example while I'm using the FW chaos renegade parts for the infantry, for veterans I am using the full Cadian (with imperial logo filed off, naturally) guys with backpacks and using Pig Iron Productions german style gas mask heads. They look good. I also have a unit of snipers using SM Scout arms and sniper rifles with the FW chaos renegade bodies. Officers look different again, and still deciding how to do psykers but might use the chaos mutant sprue.

So if you do get to use Valkyries for your chaos guys - go nuts! Bodies strapped to the side, etched brass chaos symbols, chaos symbol painted on the tail would look good etc. The pilots could be converted too using FW chaos renegade parts.

The Valkyrie itself sounds like a good buy because it can drop troops anywhere along its flight path, and can come in from the sides I think.

I can't think of any problems with usin valks in renegade guard armies; as long as it fits your own force's backstory, made/tweaked by you, go for it.
It sounds awesome

I wouldn't overdo the Valks. Just a bare-bones paint scheme with Chaos emblems painted on, much like in IA5 on the Leman Russ. I think that looks classy.
