Something of an Empire focused issue, but I really love some of the new miniatures particularly the Archers and the Empire Captain with Hammer and Pistol. I can't fathom how some of the Warhammer Armies get some truly amazing design work (Empire & Lizardmen), whilst others look like they've been cobbled together by amateurs (Dark Elves, I'm looking at you). What I am not loving are The Empire Greatswords or more specifically the price, which is confirmed as £25.00 for a box of ten Thats' £2.50 per Greatsword or £50 for a decent sized regiment of 20 Suffice to say I'm going to make a point of NOT buying these.

The Empire related articles include a series of linked battle reports (or campaign as these crazy kids like to call it) following one of Marius Leitdorf's more eccentric jaunts across the Empire. No special rules for Marius, so new miniature is basically a new Empire General model with Runefang, Full Plate Armour and Barded Warhorse (can't even give him a shield because he doesn't have one). There is a look at the new Empire Uniforms and Heraldy book, although not a very close look, otherwise you wouldn't need to buy it. And finally, there are some examples of all the wacky conversions you can do with Empire plastic kits these days (in case you have no imagination). Oh and the new Steam Tank gets a look in too.

Over in Middle Earth, some shiny new elves take a bow. Cue another Apocalypse... ahem War of the Ring battle report.

Very little 40K which is odd considering Imperial Guard only came out last month. You would have thought there would be some follow through However, they can only muster some Apocalypse datasheets for Valkyrie squadrons. Valkyries can fly in Apocalypse Games which makes perfect sense to me, but the datasheets seem almost apologetic about it and offer a helpful explanation as to why machines with wings and jet engines can... you know, fly.

As for Jervis... well he really loses it this month and pretends that an old Witch Hunter model is really a Vampire. Honestly Jervis, how do you expect us to fork out £25 for 10 Greatswords if you're too tight to buy one poxy Vampire.

No new hints that haven't already been revealed on the pages of Dakka. Planetary Empires is confirmed with some pics of the new tiles. Hilariously, settlements, fortifications etc are represented by their Warhammer counterparts. Planetstrike itself is out on 4th July along with the Landspeeder Storm, Vulkan, Khaaaaaaan! and all those cool fortifications (Chaos Bastion conspicious by its absence). On the 18th July we get NEW BRUSHES!!! (sarcastic excitement) and the intriguing sounding "Blastscape". Aybody?

Lol, GW always want us to fork out more cash. This issue is a textbook example of how sometimes it's justified and sometimes it bloody well isn't.

So how much do we get to see of this new empire guide book, like a page or two or what?

Hang on, I shall count...

The cover and three pages... nope, six pages in miniature (so you can barely read it).

In the review, phrases like "vibrant tapestry of history" and "crammed full of Empire heraldic designs" are used. It also contains "literally hundreds of illustrations".

I've started buying them used so to speak. I buy them a couple months after the most recent issue, cheaper-5-7 dollars depending on whether its 3-6 months back.

More worth it then the current price. I would never buy oit at $9.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

I'll offer all of you still buying WD a discount: send me $6 a month and I'll print out a bunch of pictures of models from their website, staple them together, and mail them to your house. That way, we both get something decent out of the transaction: I get your money and you get treated to an inferior product! wewt.

I read the empire uniforms and heraldry last week and wasn't impressed.

All matt drawings (most look like cut outs) of basic troops with different colour combos. I don't recall seeing any miniatures.

Also I shook my fist at the idiot who has made sylvannian colours black and dark red, when they have always been black, purple and dark red trim.

Highlight was stirlandrs being dirty and one being armed with a meat cleaver, and the moot. Which says alot for the rest of the book.

I was going to buy it but after reading it have decided it isn't necessary.

You could use your money to give yourself papercuts between your fingers that would be better than using it to buy white dwarf.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

It's pretty hard to get a bill to give you a paper cut.

Believe me, I just tried... hard.

by drawings, you mean like the stuff in the back of the empire army book?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

Don't have the Empire book with me ATM but as a stylistic example this is pretty much on a par, only with less flowing cloth and flatter colours.

Pretty much what they were doing in 40k source books back in 1990

Space Wolves are hinted at in the "In brief" section where the game devs are howling all the time and the 'eavy metal painters need loads of grey paint.

I don't buy WD anymore either. I just can't justify spending the money on a rag that doesn't contain anything interesting to me.
