Was thinking about starting a CSM army, and I wanted to specialize in one god.
Khorne - Bezerkers
Nurgle - Plague Marines
What are the special marines for Tzeentch and Slaanesh? And what are the special traits for them? Like Plague Marines are toughness 5 over normal 4, Bezerkers having more attacks, etc.
Cheers

Tzeentch has Thousand Sons. They're basically slow moving but have a good invulnerable save and better AP bolters
Slaanesh has noise marines, who get I5 and special sonic weaponry. They're good closer ranged assault weapon firepower.

Specialization has gone the way of the dinosaur (though this is only for 5th edition afaik) as they still throw it in their for fluff, but they don't reward you anymore for it.

My vote would be for Plague Marines, though. T5 FNP is incredibly worthy.

And who doesn't like an army being led by a turd?

I quite like the idea of Thousand Sons. What advantages do they have? I understand they're slow and purposeful, but what else? Someone said something about better AP guns.

I lol'd, hard.

On Topic: Tsons have AP 3 bolters. That's it. Oh and each squad is led by an aspiring sorcerer who can pick from a limited range of powers.

Thousand Sons are CSM with a 4+ invul, Slow and Purposeful, AP3 Bolters and are led by an expensive Sorcerer. They don't have ubergrit like the rest of the marines, however, and they are effectively I1, except for the Sorcerer, meaning they will flounder in any kind of CC. They do make good tarpits against things with armor ignoring attacks (termies etc.), though.

The problem is the price for what they do in 5th Edition. Your AP3 Bolters are made moot by 4+ cover, and your 4+ invul is made moot by 4+ cover. They are 23pts per, and another 60 plus 10-30 for the Sorcerer. On the other hand CSM with an Icon of Tzeentch will be cheaper and basically trade protection for mobility, Slow and Purposefuls ability to always shoot at range for an extra attack, and AP3 bolters for special weapons. I may be sound harsh, but if you can engineer them out of cover (5flamer Chosen anyone?) they'll sweep infantry. Also, something worth mentioning is that they can fire to 24" after driving 12" in a Rhino.

In a Tzeentchian force you tend to be starved for models. Lesser Daemons make great fillers and speed bumps, so don't over look them. You'll want all your units to be able to serve multiple rolls with the same wargear. CSM can take Meltas and hunt tanks, or they can take advantage of ubergrit and melee/shoot infantry. Defilers can remain a fire support unit, or you can fleet it into melee. Terminators can do a variaty of things all at once if you gear them correctly and can be deployed in different ways. Chosen can do the same as the CSM mentioned above, but take more weapons, allowing you to be a bigger threat to tanks, infantry or in melee depending on what the rest of the list is lacking. They also have the added bonus of being able to Outflank or Infiltrate, allowing you to change your plans for them with ease. The kings of versitility, however, are the Obliterators, who pack weapons to fight everyone and everything and can Deepstrike or deploy normally.

I meant to just make a couple points, but then I just kept going, heh. Sorry if I started rambling there.

This doesn't have to do with your question, but if I were you I would get KHORNE! They are so awsome, plus who doesn't like blood gods? Plus the Berzerkers can get rectangular shields and chainswords (i saw it on some website, not sure if thats a conversion or not) and they look amazing. Tzeentch has A Thousand Sons I think, not sure bout Slaanesh tho

Although I am still very new to the game I will throw my hat in the ring. I would say the plague marines if you are making a fluffornutter list just because IMO they are better with the FNP and T5 over the Khorne, the PMs just seem more resilient to me, plus do you really want to paint all that red??? After just painting two guys in my current color scheme of vanilla CSM with red I am already regretting that call....

Plague Marines are the strongest under the current rules set, followed closely by Bezerkers. Following that is noise marines and Thousand Sons are probably the worst right now.

Keep in mind, GW will flip flop all of that when they release the next codex. Nerf stick: its how they roll.

If you like close combat there is no going wrong with khorne. load a land raider or two stuffed to the gills with berzerkers and the betrayer and let the fun ensue.

If you want to feel confident that you will capture objectives and field a hard as nails army, nurgle is great. not to mention who doesn't love poisoned weapons every once in a while.

My favorite thing about slaanesh is they have really cool special characters, the best demon weapon out of the the 5 possibilities, and of course lash of submission.

tzeetch is cool but kinda stinks. If you want try loading as many land raiders as possible with sorcerors and cast gift of chaos from the mobile bunkers. no one will want to play you but it would be hysterical.

I bet when Chaos gets its next Update (somewhere around mid 7th edition), Thousand Sons will get Sp2 Cover Ignoring Bolters and get to move 12"

You'll be able to play a wider range of opponent's more succesfully if you freely mix and match, so you know. This Codex was written for players to do just that. To not mix and match is kinda like only eating the red M&Ms. Does it really make them taste better? Do you actually get anything out of it?

Beyond that, I'd say the easiest mono-god lists to build are Khorne or Slaanesh, though (depending) Slaanesh will be more succesful. Nurgle isn't a bad choice and Tzeentch is kinda silly to consider beyond their look and fluff.

I'm not trying to be part of the "DDCGM",but to some,"eating just the red M&M's" gives you a sense of theme, that's why I eat the greeny brown putrid M&M's of Grandfather Nurgle with out throwing in a handfull of "lashy" skittles...theme.

Embrace the skittles! Free yourselves of the monotone gods or the whitewashed (black inked?) Black Legion themes!

Do you want a chaotic theme for your army? Try "My army doesn't have a theme because it's not an army. What you see before you are the contestants in the 'Who can kill the most <insert opponents army's race>?' competition. I can't wait to find out who wins."

Embrace the Skittles! That may be the single funniest thing I've heard in a long time & I can certianly appreciate your pov, however,I'll stick with my bloated festering M&m's...err I mean" Death Guard",they "get the killin' done" very well.
