I overheard someone say that the rules provided in one of the books are kind of over
powered. What's a good ruleset for the Ancient Battle System that one could recommend
for a Japanese historical army?

Are you after something specific for WHAB?

Japanese armies from various periods are covered in a number of Ancients rulesets including WRG 6th and 7th, DBA, and DBM. The FoG book on eastern armies isn't out yet. I don't remember if they are in the Warmaster lists books.

There are also some special rulesets and lists for gunpowder era samurai armies.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Warhammer Ancient Battles is what my friends use, so as always, I'm stuck doing what they do

Supposedly the list is a bit overpowered as they took Kurosawa films as their inspiration.

They are in the process of revising WAB 1.5 to WAB 2.0 soon to be called Ancient Battles. They are just decided not to publish at least 4 supplements people have been waiting for. Wither the Divine Wind - Feudal Japan one is unknown.
