Hadn't noticed this until a fellow DA player pointed it out to me. It's kinda cool as it let's our DA veterans compete with Sternguard.

From the DA FAQ:

Page 83. Veteran Squad, Options.
The second, third and fourth bullet point should
be changed to:
‘Any model may […].’

So the second bullet changes from of up to 3 models can take storm-bolters, combi-weapons, power weapons, plasma pistols, power fists, lightning claws (single or pair), and T-hammers, ANY model can take the wargear.

YAY! DA get their own version of Drop-podding Sternguard! We don't get the fancy ammo but we can take cc weapons in addition (for a very expensive unit).

Sigh... all DA would need is a 2nd Ed reprint changing the odd statline (Azrael WS6 at the very least), throwing in some extra wargear, changing transport capacities etc

But can GW be arsed? No, because that would mean admitting the DA is now a duff codex.

Stubbornness I guess. Hey man, we still have a few tricks up our sleeves including:

1) Sammael in his AV14 Speeder
2) DW as Troops
3) 5 man combat squads with special weapons
4) Better smoke (pop smoke and get in cover for beastly rhino rushes)
5) Cheap Ven Dreads
6) Better stats on Chaplains/Librarians
7) WS/BS4 Scouts
8) Fearless Troop choices
9) DW/RW synergy
10) Did i mention DW as Troops?

So you are playing Pure DW or Pure RW or Doublewing right?

If so why you looking at veterans? If you ain't playing DW/RW you should be using the Nilla Codex

I play lots of flavors of DA, including pure DW, pure RW, and on occasion Doublewing. When the Space Marine codex came out, I made a few Green Marine armies before I said feth it and went back to the DA codex. I've done well, took second at our last tournament to a Speed Freaks Ork force by 22 vp's (tied on objectives). Generally I win a lot more than I lose so I really don't see a reason to switch to the UM Codex. My current tournament army is DW so even there I'm covered.

I can't use the nilla codex to do a Razorback rush as well as I can with the DA codex. Now that Company Vets are better, I may include them in my Mech force. 6 jumping out with combimeltas or combiplasmas can really ruin Mech/Nidzilla armies.

That sounds perfectly reasonable... Would it be so hard to do a blood angels .pdf and put it up on the site?

TFG ALERT! :p

Gwar! wrote:Why are you using the Dark Angels Codex.....

Probably for the same reasons I insist of fielding my LC/SS Vanguards: Because I think they're f'n cool, and I don't play in tournaments anymore. Not that I wouldn't play in a tournament, but I live too far away; Costs twice as much in gas as entry fees. Besides I can't 'be arsed' to finish painting my army. Even if I did enter a tournament I'd probably field Vanguards.

That's just wrong! If all the DA's disappeared, where would the Puppies get their chew toys? Every time you see a DA with a robe with a frayed hem, you know he just kicked a puppy.

"Gadfly" is a term for people who upset the status quo by posing upsetting or novel questions, or just being an irritant.

The term "gadfly" (Ancient Greek: μυο̃ψ, myops) was used by Plato in the Apology to describe Socrates' relationship of uncomfortable goad to the Athenian political scene, which he compared to a slow and dimwitted horse. The Bible also references the gadfly in terms of political influence; The Book of Jeremiah (46:20, Darby Bible) states "Egypt is a very fair heifer; the gad-fly cometh, it cometh from the north." The term has been used to describe many politicians and social commentators.

During his defense when on trial for his life, Socrates, according to Plato's writings, pointed out that dissent, like the tiny (relative to the size of a horse) gadfly, was easy to swat, but the cost to society of silencing individuals who were irritating could be very high. "If you kill a man like me, you will injure yourselves more than you will injure me," because his role was that of a gadfly, "to sting people and whip them into a fury, all in the service of truth."

In modern and local politics, gadfly is a term used to describe someone who persistently challenges people in positions of power, the status quo or a popular position. The word may be uttered in a pejorative sense, while at the same time be accepted as a description of honourable work or civic duty.
One might construe that as a personal attack!

I kid I kid... or do I!

Although I suppose I do have an honourable role here. I challenge people to back up their arguments rather than go "lalalala I am right!"

I laughed for a few minutes after reading this.

Also are DA/BA/SW such bad armies? A friend of mine is looking to start DA and I'm just wondering where all these views come from. In my experience any codex can beat any other codex.

What are DA's issues?

"I drive a big car, cuz I'm a big star. I'll make a big rock-and-roll hit." "I am a big car, and I'm a strip bar. Some call it fake, I call it good-as-it-gets."

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

Somewhere.

The main issue is the stuff tends to be a bit more expensive than Vanilla Marines and we don't have access to some of the fun new toys such as the super powered Storm Shields, Ironclad Dreadnaughts and the Redeemer or the superior Land Raider Machine Spirit. Essentially if you want to win then you need to use either Deathwing (Terminators as Troop Choices) Ravenwing (Bikers as trooo choices) or a combibnation thereof, because if you take mostly basic marines a Vanilla codex will end you.

I dunno, I use the DA Codex for my DA sub-chapter simply because I'd feel kind of wrong using the Vanilla Codex for a DA based sub-chapter army? Is.. that rediculous and am I living some sad moral lie or are others kind of close to like me? In all seriousness also, not trying to be a smart- . If the trend is that way, I'll maybe end up getting the Vanilla Book but, I dunno. Like I said, feel kinda dirty that way.

You will feel less dirty than Wolves players. Many I know have been tempted to do so, and back in 4th with "SPESS WHOLVES LITE" available many did. Now most I know are begrudgingly sticking to Codex: SPESS PUPPEHS, if only to make the new shiny codex that is gonna be so much better than yours seem even better (Than yours ).

Did I mention the New Codex: Space Wolves will be Better than Codex: Dark Angels?

If they had Puppypaw (aka Spessh Pups Deathwing) I would play that.
