Hi all,
I'm toying around with the idea of creating a Guard army, based around my own piece of fluff. Basically it's about the crew and troops stationed at a military airport (nowadays, we all need excuses for buying Valkyries). Here's the list:

The army looks fun and can definatly win but I do see a few places where points may be put to better use.

1) Medi-packs: At 30pts a piece these upgrades should do a heck of a lot more then they do. Remember as the first guard guide I ever read said, "If you have a problem with litterally taking handfuls of models off the table a turn, then this army isn't for you." With the 60pts you save here you're only 15pts away from another hydra which will most likely make its points back up more often.

2) Primaris Psyker: YMMV but I don't generally like psykers, if he fits somehow into your army then great. He just seems a little out of place to me.

3) Platoon heavy weapons: I too used to love the missle launcher, though I have sadly left them behind for months now as I feel the need for S9 to help punch through heavy armor from afar. However if you want to keep them more power to you. I would however switch you heavy weapons between your line squads and your HW squad. 3x HB's have great synergy when firing at the same target, but AT weapons may want to split their fire. You also may want to think about adding some special weapons to your platoon for a bit more firepower.

4) Sniper Grenadiers: What is this units combat role? Are there other ways of accomplishing it better?

5) Vendettas: With the lack of reliable anti-tank in your army I am just a bit confused on the choice of anti-infantry weapons onboard? Perhaps instead 1x Lascannon Vendetta and 2x MRP Valks?

6) Armored Sentinels: Do they need to be armored? I agree that the lascannons help make up some of your lack of AT but I think the points saved going with armor 10 combined with outflanking would make the scout sentinel squadron a better choice.

7) Leman Russ Punisher: I know that's a lot of Dakka but can I throw a demolisher in as another option? Kitted out with plasma & a lascannon it's expensive but throws so much highstrength AP2 it makes anything without an invul save cry, and makes characters cring when they have to take ther invul saves. It also helps because I don't feel that you have enough heavy infantry killers in the list.

Again these are just my thoughts when looking through the list, I like the overall theme and with some pruning of extra gear I think you can make it a solid list.

1) Yeah, I thought about that. In the Command Squad I already have 2 bodyguards, so I will most likely drop the medic.

2) I'll use him as some kind of chief navigator/ chief overseer of the traffic on the airport. It's all about counts-as

4) They may end up as daisypickers. I felt like I needed a third Troops choice and Penal Legion is just too unreliabe as an objective-keeping unit.

5) Hmm..I don't really get the point there. You say that I'm lacking AT (which means anti-tank I guess) but tell me to drop a Vendetta and take a Valkyrie instead ?

6) Valid point, I'll try and see how the points are better spent.

7) I wanted to use it as another counts-as slot. Maybe converting one into a special-uber-flak-tank. I think that's a little fluffier than a Demolisher.

No worries, it's always nice to have someone else look over your list, especially if you haven't bought all of it yet.

Sorry though for not being clear on point #5. What I ment was that with 2x Vendettas with Hellfury Missles you only have 2x TL-Las cannons which most likely won't be firing at tanks as you'll want to drop their bombs. If you instead built one as a valkeryie with MRP you could still maintain the anti-infantry but would then gain some anti-tank by "downgrading" your remaining vendetta to a 3x Lascannon varient.

However then I realized that to put out as much AT fire as the two vendettas with just one Lascannon each your single Vendetta could only move 6" a turn (though admittantly it would gain another shot). Hope that clears it up a bit.

Much better! I can't speak much to the use of the special characters as I haven't yet play tested them but they seem to fit with the overall army theme. I especially think that using creed to either outflank the Punisher or else a combined hydra battery could be quite fun. My only critique of this new list is that you may want to consider combining the ratlings into one squad. I know it allows you to fire at less targets but it also eliminates a kill point.

...oh yeah and it needs more Commissars!
