Long time lurker, figured i'd come outta my shell and post these here to hopefully show people how easy it is to make Griffons out of Basilisks
I've yet to make the shroud and resolve the end of the barrel (make it a bit smaller). Also need to finalize equipment placement, then strap it all down.
Mods done to make them mortars:
-barrel and chamber above trimed down.
-suspension arms lifted w/ sprue (ugly solution but not noticeable and easily covered up).
-rear "deck" cut down and re-trimed.
-bottom of main body cut behind cab to allow whole floor to be dropped low.
-hunter killer missles and tubing for the shells.
-hunter killer "rail" for control stalk to the rear right.
-pontoon things on sides cut down to reduce bulk and make them a bit sleeker.
Yeah, so, real easy to do! Thought I'd share.

Great Conversions. Might i suggest your modification include the ability to re-attach the Earthshaker cannons so you can do an easy swap out if you want to run any of these guys as Basilisks. You could also put the cannon base back in its origional spot as well to make them more basi like.
The conversion is spot on

I really like these conversions!
1. I love all-plastic models!
2. Lowered decks are very nice and the Basilisk deck (cut-down) makes a hell of a lot more sense in terms of space than the OOP Griffon decks.
3. Great stowage on the vehicles.
4. Nice crews!
5. Nice shells! I made shells for my own Griffons too. GW ought to make them! What's a gun without shells?
Nice work!

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.
I build IG...lots and lots of IG. |

Great little & simple(ish) conversions there.
Any plans for a tube-like insert so they can be basilisks too?
Really like the little pack that's strapped to the hull on the last pic (although I don't know how the guys will get to it - hope it doesn't contain the brew kit!).
Also like the idea of trimming down the sides - must admit I didn't notice it at first.

Why stop at a tube insert for a bassie barrel?
You could make a fat barrel sleeve to fit ove the lil barrel stub, keep it the diameter of the breech. Poof- Medusa.

thanks everyone. I guess it's worth that little extra effort to make a few simple varied barrels, though i don't know if I'd ever field anything other than griffons in my army but never hurts to have them on hand.
