I cant recall ever seeing a poll on any site about where people actually play their games, so figured it would be a nice one to have here on dakka...

Chicago

I mostly game at home and at my friend's house - we both built 4x8 tables in our basements, and we can have a few beers during the game that way. Occassionally I'll go to a GW store for pickup games.

There are no FLGSs within 30 miles of my house. GW shops have pretty much driven the independents from most of Chicago - the exceptions are all on the other side of the city from me.

We have a great club here in Northern NJ, 18 and older. We rent our own space "The Club House" where folks can hobby, game, watch vids or just hang out without the pressure of a LGS or the teenie boppers... We are a Non-Profit Origination that collects modest monthly dues from our members and in return provides a certain gaming freedom... Among our members are Top-Notch Painters, Skilled Hobbyists and gamers of all backgrounds.

I play 90% at home 10% at the LGS.

I've got a two bedroom apt, with just me and my gf living there.

The second bedroom is my 'hobby' room, which includes a 4X8 table with ample scenery.

I occasionally play at the LGS, in the next town over.
My Problems with it are;

The Owner doesn't care about 40k.

40k players are like lepers forced to play in the back rooms.

The back rooms don't have flocked tables.

The back rooms are converted apt space, and stinks like crap because of the stores lazy owner.

No offence to some of the players, but they stink like crap too.

Too many proxy armys.

Lack of painted armys.

I'm not a gamer snob, but I expect much more out of a LGS that wants my buisness. I play proxy games occasionally, in my house, to test combinations. But I don't pack up a 50% proxy army, agree to a pickup game at the LGS and then whip out my pile of gak that destroys some of the more intricate parts of the rules. (MCs with no bases? Skimmers with no bases? Tanks missing turrets?).

I would love to play at my LGS more, but the owner needs to make some serious changes to the way he runs his buisness.

I game at GW because I don't have any friends who play 40k. I do have 1 friend who might start and then I'll build a gaming table for my house. Haven't decided to try any of my LGS yet mainly because I know more people at GW right now.

I play 40k at a local store. When I'm in the mood to play Fantasy or WotR I have to travel about an hour, but it is worth it.

yeah,
I play at home, I used to play at GW bromley (London UK) but I havn't played there in about two years.
ArbitorIan and I tried the CharingCross Gamers Club but decided that £5 Per game was too much!

While GW Bromley was awesome, the staff are friendly and non pushy (they knew we bought product?)
I got bored of the ammount of children playing in the battle bunker upstairs.
you had to get there early to beat them to a good table and put your own cd on the radio..
Those Kids were Spoilt and had gak taste in music, and took all the good terrain.

Now I've made my own terrain, We have a healthy number of (25+yrs old) 40k friends.
We play at mine, Fingers or the HachetMans house.

I play at home, now.

My wife and I moved to the country and bought a bed and breakfast with a room to spare. Now I have a 4x8 table and closet space to store my armies. Every couple of weeks I've been having some of the local players come over for a game and it is nice to get away from the younger kids at the store and just focus on the game and people at hand.

In the city I used to game at a LGS and on Sundays at a University that ran a wargames club. Problems with those places are that you have to wrap up your games when it's time and you can't enjoy a drink with your game. Gaming at home gives me some control as to what sort of opponents will be there. I like the laid back variety that thinks about their moves and enjoys a good laugh.

WAAC sees the inside of my house but once....

currently, i'm living in an out of the way place, so i only really get to game when i'm at a friends.

during college semesters, i usually play at my place, a friends place, or the gaming club at the college i attend.

the store i use to go to closed/moved/ i don't know what actually happened to it, the building as in now sells antiques, but they're listed with a new address on the gw store list somewhere out in the boonies

Always at home, haven't got the mental capacity to take my minatures to away games and bring it all home in one piece.

Suits me well tbh as I have fairly decent terrain, and theres nothing really close enough to go to gaming wise. The idea of carrying my mini's to the nearest FLGS or GW, isn't worth the hassle. (About an hour on the bus.)

The only downside of this set up atm is I'm averaging a game a month.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I currently don't play (I am waiting until I have more of my army painted until I do - I was thinking of going down to my local GW today as I have just passed 500pts of painted CSM's, but the grass on the bases was still drying, so I do not want to risk it).

But I will probably be playing at my local GW store when I start playing. There is only 1 in the city that I live, and I don't think there are any FLGS's, althogh there is a game club down the road from me, but it looks almost like a gentleman's club as they have blacked out the windows and there is only a small Warhammer symbol in the window to let you know what it is... Spooky.

I don't think people give GW retail shops enough credit. It totally depends on the staff and customer-base (as do most shops), but if you can find a good one, you're set.

Usually it refers to a group of like-minded individuals outside of a store environment.

The clubs I play at hire a venue for the meet (council hall, sports club rooms, whatever). There are however, a large-ish number of 'clubs' set up here that are run in FLGSs. I haven't played IN a store in over 14 years. The last one was Sydney Battle Bunker (because the next closest store closed and the munchkins from there moved in).
