Ive been dabbling in creating a new army for a long time now
and im strewn between IG or CSM
so the ups and downs views and opinions on each army
or a straight up answer on what you should pick
love to hear from you

that depends a lot on reserve rolls, scatter, and to-hit rolls. While the oblits are waiting in reserve, the LR's are massacring the rest of the CSM army.


Actually, the meanest IG armies are mechanized with LR support, not all LR's. imagine a 2000pt game with 76 infantry riding in 9 chimeras with 3 vendettas and 3 LRBT's, thats a lot of shooty, a lot of autocannons, heavy flamers, heavy bolters, lascannons and battlecannons pouring fire downrange for those oblits to face. They really don't like Vendetta's. Take it from an Iron Warriors player, IG will shoot the piss out of CSM's now, no matter how many Oblits one brings.


As to the OP's question, as both a CSM and IG player, go for IG. The IG codex is incredibly flexible, has tons of flavor and soul, and having a ton of tanks is always awesome. The new IG codex is leaps and bounds better in every way over the old one, while the CSM codex is still the subject of much controversy amongst CSM players.

More like several smoking wrecks and maybe a shaken one or two, followed by a short drive 180 degree turn then mass shooting.
Either way the whole army might turn around and either mass shoot or just throw enough Guardsmen at the problem until it's gone.

But, I'd go with the traitor guard, you get both Obliterators and Leman Russes right? If you can it seems like a win-win situation.

They deep strike, wreck some imperial crap then the rest are destroyed by the Leman Russes XD

I saw it the other day somewhere on Dakka, as a model, but I can't find it at the moment, that's the closest I could find.

I just saw someone make that very mini just recently on here. It made me laugh. Angry Marines are just so damn cute!

Abhorsen950. One question I have for you is what is your budget? IG and have very different monetary costs. If you want all new minis then IG is going to cost you allot more hands down then CSM. two valks/vendettas is $120 alone. In addition if you can't get the old cadian/catachcan boxed sets or battleforces you are going to pay even more. If you are going to for 2nd hand minis IG is still FOTM so auctions are going to be more expensive then they were a few months ago. CSM on the other hand can probably be found cheaper since they have a relatively older codex. That being said, if money is not a problem then pick the army you are going to have the most fun putting together/converting and painting. Not the one which plays the best.

Also answer to DS oblits is inquisitor + 2 mystics in a Valk/vendetta. Oh look anything you DS gets shot at by my squadron of LR gg oblits.

well i'd still go for the oblies...a multimelta i the back of a tank means BOOM!!

Use CSM as Elites in friendly games if its okay with you friends, take Chosen as Elites or HQ again if its okay with your friends. Remember if people are cool with it you can do just about anything.

I second the opinion that the IG codex is far more flexible and interesting than the CSM codex.

'scuse me noisy, but BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD....i mean SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE...AAhhhrgh!! dammit...what i was trying to say was that when i first bought the new csm codex i was like nlown away by the number of options, different units and everything....play csm or csm/traitors BUT NOT IG!!! ohh...and you can;t have hs choices for the lost & damned list so no obliterators...

sorry guys ive been in london for this weekend and havent had the chance for access to dakka but i dont really have a budget i can a chaos army rlly cheap of a friend who doesnt play any more

but my brother has IG models that he doesnt use so i could take both and combine but i was thinking of adding SOB or GK to the army
