I thought Land speeder's were discovered after the heresy, part of the reason why chaos marines don't bother with them (set in their ways I guess). If this is so, then why are they appearing in the horus heresy novels, surely this should be basic canon for the fluff? Librarians are another thing which I feel shouldn't be around at the time of the heresy, thoughts?

Beast Coast

I thought I heard somewhere that there were land speeders, they just weren't as common at that time.

It's also possible that the reason Chaos marines don't bother with land speeders is that they are difficult to maintain and all of the ones originally brought with them have been destroyed or fallen into disrepair. They could always capture them though, of course. The reality of it, is that it's probably just a design choice to make Chaos slightly more different than regular marines.

Why shouldn't Librarians be around during the Heresy though? Weren't there still marine psykers back then?

Forever alone

In the Visions of Darkness book, there are very obvious pictures of Land Speeders.

And this is THE book for Horus Heresy stuff.

And Librarians were outlawed at the time of the Heresy, which is why the Thousand Sons got spanked.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Apparently the Dark Angels have librarians according to the HH series. Consistency and GW are like oil and water, something I discovered again after a discussion with he who shall not be named which got me to reread my codex and discovered inconsistencies on the same page!

One of the dress angels many secrets i suppose.

they can practise witchery under the Emprahs nose and not get castrated like the 1k sons and Magnus.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Somewhere.

I believe the difference was that Librarians only use there own psychic mojo. The Thousand Sons and Magnus used Daemons and warp knowledge, actual magic and witchcraft as it were.

Librarians were allowed at the time of the Heresy, it was Magnus' study of the Warp that was banned. It was on a planet called Nikia. You can check out the details at everyone's favorite place, Lexicanum. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Nikaea

What is probably shown on the front cover of the HH novel is one of the Imperial Jetbikes, as they were around during the HH, but over the centuries have been lost. IIRC, Sammael has the last of the Imperial Jetbikes.

"You have commited the ultimate heresy. Not only have you turned your back on the Emperor and stepped from His light, you have profaned His name and almost destroyed everything He has striven to build. You have perverted and twisted the path He has laid for Mankind to tread. As your own decrees have stated, there can be no mercy for such a crime, no pity for such a criminal. I renounce your lordship. You walk in the darkness and can not be allowed to live. Your sentence has been long overdue, and now it is time for you to die."

A slum in scotland... the only shinty with a computer!

My personal take on the answer would be that there were probubly still a few land speeders kicking arround from when the <insert materalising thingymebobbers name here> were first made, but not alot, and once they found the pattern again after the heracy they made more? and chost didnt steal much or a substancial ammount to salvage parts to save the ones that were only slightly broken...

damn i need 2 sort out my head before posting...

Anti-Grav knowledge is rare and the machinery is difficult to build and maintain. Chaos marines have abandoned speeders because they lack the resources to maintain them, and the imperium reserves the few remaining sources of anti-grav for the Space Marines, so IG no longer have bikes.

They're definitely speeders and one of the books mentions them as a new technology too.
