Hello! I don't have Tyranid guards and don't want to drop $60.00 on them. Soooo... my choices for HQ are a huge horde of Tyranid Warriors or a tooled up Hive Tyrant. I'd love the Tyrant for Shadows in the Warp - I think it will really hurt Lash/Misc Psyker lists, but... I'm not positive those will be in my local round one tournament. On the other hand, 6 Tyranid warriors are 12 fearless shooting wounds a person has to get through for 5 points (in round 2). But, Hive Tyrants are monstrous and fit in good with the fex horde... but... but... but...

What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Go with Warriors... Definately

Why not use tyranid warriors as tyrant guard?

Also, I don't know if anyone will expect warriors, go with massive warriors for sure!

I would use Warriors as Guard, but I just hate meeting those dink players who then rail on you about "What you see is what you get" and they see Warriors, not Guard and and and. It always ends chaos, screaming, tantrums, fistacuffs, pleading and drinking heavily. My opponents get upset too. But hey! (insert Rimshot here).

Yeah, I've tooled up the warriors. I think it should be fine

Warriors are pretty effective in tournaments I think. But nothing beats the survivability of tyrant plus 3 guard. Good thing you can take both (that's what I would do...my 2k allcomers list has 24 warriors and 1 tyrant with 3 guard).
