Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

After reading much discussion about the "proper" way to game, and discussions pertaining to whether competitive gaming is marring the hobby...we come to 'Ard Boyz, which is a completely fluffless, knock em down, beat them dead tournament completely for competitive gamers.

I'm curious to know what percentage of people here will be going.

All tournaments are, by definition, for/about competition.

I really wish I could. I would like to test my skills on a higher level and see how I do. Alas, I live in a country of no tournaments...I think.

I was planning to go to the store anyways for the Eye of Terror redux event running this summer. I gotta get some more wins onthe board for the forces of order I won't be playing in the tournament, but I'll be happy to watch and maybe pick up some pointers on tactics I've not seen before.

Your side is always the "will of the people" the other side is always fundamentalist, extremist, hatemongers, racists, anti- semitic nazies with questionable education and more questionable hygiene. American politics 101.

I'll go next year, maybe.

I don't really like 'Ard boyz. It attracts the neck beards out of their basements that make me not enjoy this hobby.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Naw, I'm definitely a casual-only gamer. I don't enjoy having to pound out games to finish under a time limit. Have a beer, chat a bit - that's how I like to play.

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

I am playing this year. The group at my FLGS is laid back and fun, while there will be very strong lists no TFGs. We should have a nice variety of armies as well.
good luck to everyone.
peace.

The Realm in Brea. I almost Pm'd you for a practice game after your post in "schedule a game" section but had a busy week, I'm right down Beach blvd just past Buena Park.

Although its a little late to post here, I find it interesting the number of negative responses.

I was pumped to play in 'Ard Boys. To test my strategic prowess against others in a timed event makes everything even more enjoyable. Needing to complete specific tasks - and attempting to complete more - before the window of opportunity closes... competition at its best.

Ya' know, its kinda like a giant version of competitive chess.

I'm also finding the proportion surprising....

Just won the preliminaries. 66/72 points. Going to be difficult to go to the semifinals because it's at least a 6 hour drive, but I'll try.

I didn't play but I did watch part of it.

I don't play any of the favored armies so would be a waste of my time and I wasn't going to buy a new one just for this. I also expected to see some real asshat players and some did show up.

The odd thing was that out of our local group only two played in it and all the rest were from out of town and a couple were from out of state.

The vast majority were unpainted armies which just leaves me cold.

This bugs me too... I'm a die hard tourney player, but there's just something about completely unpainted models and questionable "glue jobs" to meet WYSIWYG" that kills me... that and Pringles Can Deff Rollas that they couldn't even bother priming to make them look a little more presentable...

Before anyone rants about it... Yes, I understand painting isn't required... but it still annoys me...

I didn't go (or didn't play -- I spectated and provided moral support for a friend) because I don't have an army large enough to field 2500 points, and didn't feel like accelerating purchases (and rushing vehicle assembly) to make it so.
