Lookin' fur daemons ta' fight!

I was always wondering...is there more than one hive mind? What I mean by this is that, Is there one single entity called they hive mind or the overmind that gives its attention to every one of its fleets across the galaxy, like a lord admiral, acting as a indomitable force of will with endless hunger, or are do all of the hive minds( if there is in fact more than one)act as one one collective consciousness, like some sort of council that unites the hive fleets, and controls the entire race of the nids? If anyone knows this or has an answer at all, I would like to know.

As far as i know, there is one hive mind (THE Hive Mind). The Hive Fleets are under control of the Norn Queens, one Queen for a Hive Fleet. The Queens are under control of the Hive Mind.

So by that logic is the Hive Mind the greatest Psyker in the 40k Universe? If the Hive Mind is able to control such powers outside of the Warp (if it is only outside of the Warp) and must do so without the ease of using the Warp to magnify itself and its powers then wouldn't the Hive Mind be able to dwarf all other powers in the Universe? Granted that the Hivemind must control and direct the hungers of its various Hivefleets and Queens so it is not able to direct its power at once.

Also is the Hive Mind just pure hunger and physical chaos, or does it have any recorded intelligence or evil intent (by a non-tyranid's viewpoint)?

to me, the entire Tyranid race is just one big organism. It just has gaunts where we have fingers or something.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

That's a pretty good observation. I hadn't thought of it like that before and it would be hard for us to really understand it, but it makes sense I guess.

Think about it this way:

The Larger an organism is, the more nervous system control nodes it needs. Humans have one brain, but many nerves and nervous nodes. Something even larger, like an elephant, has nore nerves than Humans do. Humongous organisms start to need multiple brains to function properly (that's why a squiggoth shouldn't exist with only on ebrain, but does).

The Hive Mind is so vast an organism that it has many. many brains and nervous systems- they are the tyranids. When a gaunt dies, it's like one of our skin cells dying. When a Hive Tyrant or bigger bug dues, it's like injuring a nerve or a blood vessel.

The real question by that assumption is, will the Necrons get a 5th Ed Codex? If so, yes.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

I actually think that the Hive Mind is the greatest psyker is 40k, because MOst people that have tried touch it psychically have all gone mad *exept* Cheif librarian tigurus. I also believ this because it is able to control thousands of organisms over countless light years. Btw, thanks for all the answers.

I like to think of them in an insect like way, with synapse as the focal point. Just because workers bees stray from the hive it doesn't make them forget their instincts to collect pollen for the colony.

For nid's replace worker bees with synapse creatures and pollen with biomass.
