We've all had ideas for starter boxes, no matter how random.

Things like

Guard vs. Chaos

Eldar vs. Orks

Space Marines vs. Everybody

Tau vs. Eldar (This would be AWESOME!)

Dark Eldar vs. Necrons

and the list goes on and on.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

A starter box WITHOUT space marines >.>

Seriously... is it THAT hard to make 2 starter kits with different armies?

I would love to see a Imperial guard and a chaos starter box.... Would help out those armies SO MUCH (They are model heavy :S)

Well, in all fairness to SM, they are the ultimate starter army, as they hit hard and are fairly forgiveing to mistakes.

The only realistic option to replace Spez Murnz Huurhh would be Imperial Guard, as GW would want to mainain the option of playing as humans.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I don't think it would be too terrible of an idea to have multiple starter sets. Kind of like how Magic has a multitude of "Starter Decks" you can kind of have even just two or three different starter packages.

Imperial Guard vs. Tyranids (Starship Troopers set)

Eldar vs. Dark Eldar

Tau vs. Necrons

Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters vs. Chaos

And then of course Space Marines vs. Orks

I agree with the idea of multiple starter sets, but why limit to 2 armies per set? Why not have expanded battleforce boxes that include @500 points with a small AoBR sized rulebook and templates for each army? I know I'd be happy to shell an extra $20 for my Tyranid battleforce if it included a spare rulebook. And it seems like a genuinely feasible option, especially for the armies with an extensive selection of plastics.

Why do people put the "you" in titles like this in capitals. I mean, come on, it's not like I am going to be typing away and suddenly go "oops, thats not my opinion at all thats thingymabob's opinion down the street - why didn't the OP put the you in capitals so I wouldn't make that mistake?"

Just of one my pet peeves whilst traversing the internets.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Starter sets does not function in the same way as battle forces.

Starter set in order to make a good deal + be viable for 2 starting players must have good balanced starting units.

GW will never make anything that doesnt have SM in their starter sets because thats their Flag Army. They can afford to make alternate simplified versions of them , but not for every race.

Dunno, it's just a habit really. If it is really THAT serious I could fix it, but, IMHO, it's fine.

The thing is,I doubt GW would ever release a starter box that dosn't include SM as they are GWs "flagship" army and best selling product line.
That being said, I personaly would like to see an IG vs Chaos or Nidz starter box.

I have to agree with Lunahound on this that it won't happen. Does anyone know how many starter kits there have been? I have two the one in 199? and Black Reach. Both are SM vs Orks.

Realistic choice: Space Marines vs. Necrons

Slightly less likely, but not impossible choice: IG vs Tyranids (This one might require too many minis to really be an economical starter set while still maintaining the flavor of the two armies. And GW will never do a set without SM)

Totally never going to happen but what I would like: Witch Hunters (SOB) vs. Daemons (Put a Rhino in there with WH insignia and trappings and line me up for the pre-order).

To be honest, I think Space Marines are the best choice for a starter box because they're so newb-friendly. They have a wide variety of playstyles and don't take a pro to use effectively.

But the second race should not be another MEQ army. That totally defeats the purpose of the box.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Under the couch

I really don't care about the two armies represented... starter sets are aimed primarily at beginners rather than existing players, so really whatever's in there, so long as its a good deal, is gravy.

My only real 'wants' would be:

- two reasonably balanced forces.

- quick assemble plastics, as they're so much easier for beginners, and great for army fillers for me

- some scenery ... The current horde of minis is great, but I frankly would have rather seen another set more in line with BfM, with a selection of minis and some terrain, so you can actually have a reasonable game straight out of the box.

- scenarios introducing the miniatures. The little scenario booklets in the 2nd edition and BfM boxes were great for easing newbies into the game, only loading them down with as much information as they actually needed.

I'd like to see Battleforce Boxes for each faction that actually meet the basic army requirements: 1hq and 2 troops.
