Right now for my chaos space marines i have 2 squads of regular space marines,
a Lord with jump pack, a nurgle greater daemon,and a drednaught,and a squad of
Terminiters.I also have 2 rinos coming in the mail.

So my question is what should I get next, im really new to chaos
Space marines and I dont know what is good yet.

I was thinking of geting raptors or a squad of plauge marines but I
wanted to know what all the other dakka dakka chaos players have to say.

Go for the Raptors. They can catch bullets for the Lord, and move fast. Give them an Icon of Nurgle and it'll go with the Nurgle theme you apparently have.

But you might as well go for both if you have the dosh, and experiment to see what works for you, because the Plague Marines can hold objectives fairly well.

Unless youre playing a themed army, dont go for raptors before you get the essentials - this is coming from someone who loves raptors. These units are what I recommend if you want GOOD units:

HQ - Daemon Prince. This bad boy is better in every way over a lord and is only a few more points. Theyre also excellent models that really stand out, and are unique to Chaos Space Marines.

Elite - You have terminators (and a dread), youre set. Dont waste money on possessed ever unless you really like the models, as they are one of the worst units CSM have. Chosen can be made from normal CSMs.

Troops - If you want melee powerhouses, get Khorne Berzerkers. They will wreck nearly everything in combat. One of the best units we have. Also, if you want defensive, sturdy units, go plague marines. I personally dont like the models, so I dont use them, but you might. Sonic Marines are "ok" I guess, if you want to build a themed army with them. Thousand Sons, as much as I like them, cost too many points to use in a list at all.

Fast Attack - Raptors are the only decent option, but wait until you have everything else you need first. Bikes are overpriced, spawn are THE worst unit in the codex.

Heavy - Obliterators. These guys are so amazing for their points, theyre borderline cheesy. They have every gun youd ever want out of a heavy unit, plus theyre in terminator armour and can be hidden with ease. Defilers are also good with their battlecannons, though they get blown up easily. Predator tanks with heavy bolters are good for anti horde armies. Everything else is up to you, but not essential.

Overall, Id recommend Daemon Prince, Berzerkers, Obliterators and maybe a Defiler.

Maybe get a regular SM Battleforce, and trade the Scouts for something?

You can always use another Rhino, regular Marines, and Jump Packs.

Night Lords basicly hit the nail on the head with the choices he laid out,the only thing I can add is ,unless you plan on using your terminators for deep striking only you may want to pick up a land raider,an av 14 transport can always be usefull.

Well, one or two winged Daemon Princes.

Cult Marines as troops.
I'd take either Noise Marines or Plague Marines mounted in Rhinos.

Terminators with combi-weapons.

About 6 Obliterators and one Vindicator.

Hooray for plague marines. If you really want to make an opponent shake his head and say "Really...? Just... really?" Play like 30 of them

Listen to Night Lord. The Chaos Space Marines codex has a very wide rift between units that are good and bad. The units that are good, like the Daemon Prince, Rhino, Chaos Space Marine, Plague Marine, and Obliterator can make an absolutely rock solid army.

Many of the other units, however, are costly and do not give you much more than a basic CSM for the point cost. It's very easy to get lost in the Chaos codex and assemble a mishmash of units that soak up points and don't work together very well.

If you've got a couple rhinos coming, you're off to a great start. Buy a couple plague marines and some more rhinos to cover all your troop basics, and then you can purchase 4-6 Obliterators to round out your army.

You should purchase some Obliterators or a Defiler.

I say the Defiler as its just a nifty model.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Defilers are great models, especially because they have so many uses beyond Defilers. Obliterators, well, if you're an experienced modeler and can pin, green-stuff, and dremel, sure. Otherwise I recommend taking the scratch-build route by purchasing some Terminators and giving them mega-combi-weapons.

^ Seconded.

Defilers are great, although they have a *different* role than Oblits.

I'm also working out my CSM army, the Black Dawn, and I need some help too. I got 48 Marines (I know, it's alot. I'm gonna be doing some conversions when I get some green-stuff), 8 Havocs, termie, noise w/ doom siren, LR, rhino, 8 'zerkers, 5 possessed (idc if everyone thinks they suck, I love 'em), sorceror, and lord.

Like I said, I'm gonna be doing some conversion on my marines soon. And the main army I will be fighting the most is the Tau. so what cult marines should I try to do conversions out of?
