Should probably specify after answering.

In my experience, most long term gamers are also in long term relationships, and their partners are supportive of their hobby, although generally mockingly so. Ive actually known a number of girls who would rather date a gamer than a non-gamer; something about nerds being nicer people.

I've had a "fling" in the past, nothing serious but a nice experience i suppose. GW takes enough money as it is, geesh if i even imagine of paying for a GF and GW i'd be doomed.

Legoburner, I really enjoy all these questions about wargamers, just wanted you to know.
How about a question on witch kind of jobs we tend to have? Could be interesting.

I don't think my relationship was really affected by 40k or anything.

I've been with the same woman since I've started gaming (10+ years). She has been very supportive over the years, but I think that's because the money I could be spending on strippers and alcohol is being spent on little plastic men. Plus she doesn't have to worry about me being swarmed by young pretty things.

"Hey baby, I'm a gamer," is never going to be an effective pickup line, but smart women recognize that there are a lot worse pastimes than gaming. After all, you're a lot less likely to get into trouble while hanging out at the game store playing with toy soldiers, than you are while hanging out at the bar. Also, the fact that there are so few girl gamers is a plus to the jealous types...

I didn't start wargaming until after I was already engaged to my wife, in fact she helped encourage me to embrace it as a hobby. Now we have two kids, 2.92 yrs and 0.33 yrs old.

Are gamers lonely? Not if they have friends. ALways been single, figure my chances with the ladies have been shot to hell and back so many times due to my fascination with creepy and nerdy things.

Had two serious relationships in the last five years (wow, time flies), started gaming just before the first one ended.

The second woman was supportive in a "holy crap I am horrified but strangely amused" kind of way.

I feel like this cat sometimes... though I am not a virgin.

Onion article:
Pet Owner Not Bothering To Neuter Loser Cat
July 13, 2009 | Issue 45•29

CORAL SPRINGS, FL—Mike Oakland, 29, told reporters Monday he is not about to pay $100 to have his 5-month-old cat, Mowgli, neutered, because he has no expectations that the dull, paunchy tabby will ever get laid.

Mowgli
"For all he's going to use those balls, he might as well keep them," said Oakland, adding that he'd bet anyone any amount of money that the striped kitten will die a virgin. "He never leaves the house, and I've seen how the neighbor cat looks at him. Completely platonic." When reached for comment, a spokesperson from the Florida Humane Society reiterated that it's important to have all pets spayed or neutered, even ugly lame-o's who probably couldn't score in a roomful of calicos in heat.

Out of the guys I play with - I'm something of an oddity. My love-life and my gaming has never really opposed each other - in terms of my attention or my money. Now, I've only been playing WH for over a year, but I still think of "gamers" as computer, console, and table-top players - in which case I've been a gamer my whole life. Luckily for me, I'm with a wonderful woman who accepts my hobbies and incourages me to do well in them. For instance, she attends nearly every tournament I enter simply to watch, and cheer me on (and she occasionally plays as Space Marines). And I'm marrying this amazing woman in 3 weeks...

Am I a lucky guy or what?

I had a gf for about 6 months... about 4 or 5 years ago... just before I started wargaming... since then... nada... not to say I haven't tried, just that I'm kinda picky when it comes to ladies... this whole romance thing is usually a one-way type thing for me...

My wife brought me lunch during the Ard Boyz tourney last weekend. She totally tolerates me taking over the kitchen table for days at a time to paint and build and is a good sport in general.

I didn't win the tournament but I sure won the spousal lottery.
