I was wondering if anyone else thought that these tournament variants would make for fun and competitive FLGS tournament... They are still a work in progress and I would appreciate feedback about tweaking rules.

Escalation Tournament: Basically you would have a tournament each week with ever increasing point totals for your list. The catch is that once you make your list for 750 point, those 750 points are locked and the list is frozen... you cannot spend the extra points gained from allowance on things in previously your list. However you may chose to run a list that is less than the given total below. Unspent points roll over to next week.

First week: 750
Second week: 1000
Third week: 1250
Fourth week: 1500

For Example:
For the first week, an Ork player Decides to take a Warboss with 'eavy armor and a powerklaw , and three mobs of thirty boyz each led by a Nob with a powerklaw and a bosspole. The second Week the Ork player decides to only use 220 out of the 250 points and purchase another mob of thirty boyz led by a Nob with a powerklaw and a bosspole. This continues on until the Fourth Week, when The Ork Player decides pull a feint on all the tournament goers who are used to seeing a slow moving Green Tide, So the Ork player purchases 11 Warbikers led by a Nob with a powerklaw and a bosspole for 310 points (250 + the 60 saved from the second and third week)

As the Above Example Suggest, "banking points for next week" can be an extra element unto itself. In addition to this the Metagame rarely stays the same as people will purchase counters to the top army of the week. This also discourages traditional "cheese" list as there will not be enough points to support them until later in the tournament...

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

Its not a bad idea - the issue is getting enough people together who are willing to play a four week tournament...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Somewhere.

I'd also suggest having objectives to bag extra points...maybe only a few for secondary objectives but a fair few for important and risky objectives. It adds an element...do you spread out, go for more objectives, go for the risky one and hope the extra points make up for your armies damage, or do you play it safe and preserve your forces?
