As requested by illuknisaa, what makes you want to start a new army?

The Background, for sure.

Currently, I'm looking to CSM (as dakka knows) and Expanding on my OnG and looking at Skaven (neek neek!)

You could say the mini's for me as well...

I've got Space Wolves, my first army. I liked the fluff a lot and there isn't much easier a way to learn the game than 'GRR! Charge!' and 'Oh crap, there went a squad. Bloody demolisher cannons.'

Second: Chaos Marines, zerker heavy, mech. I'm a fan of mechanized assault armies, what can I say?

My future project and last army: Eldar. Mech or not, jetseer or not, magic heavy or not, still nebulous. But I want a different approach than smothering something in power-armored axe-swinging crazies, be they shouting 'Blood for the Blood God!' or 'For Russ and the Allfather!' The Eldar armor and vehicles will be a test of the painting skill I've gained from my first two armies, and I want something more like a chess game than a slugging match.

I went for 'New painting opportunities' and 'New technique' after giving the matter some thought. The Eldar will give me a new perspective on the game, both from the eyes of the artist and the gamer. Now I just need to be not broke so I can get them off the ground.

I must admit that I am one of the gamers who will buy a new army becuase of the new shiny models, then leave it under the bed to gather dust. I have however, changed my ways, and haven't started a new army for several months now. There needs to be a gamers annoyomous section on here lol

Boredom: When the locals get run over constantly to the point where a tie makes them happy, I need to learn a new army to keep them playing.

Mainly for the cool mini's in the range, also sometimes it's because I can figure out a battle plan for that army and that makes me want to test it out.

Also, it's nice to have a change in colour scheme. After painting red corsair for so bloody long i'm making an eldar school league army, some iron warrior planetstrike army and some traitor guardsmen. All compatable with the corsairs as mercenaries but good for a wind of change...

I usually dive into something new because I like the minis, background or it's going to be Thursday night game for the next few months...

Mainly what they look like but also the background. Sometimes i get an idea about how i could model/paint a particular miniature and go for the army cause of that.

Im glad I was able to pick a couple different ones. Because for me its usually a mix of painting something new/different minis/ and a different tactic. Dont get me wrong, I love my Orks, but sometimes, I want to do something different. Necrons here I come!

The armies I have and will make, I make according to my gaming personality. I have Chaos, because as a gamer I'm crazy-driven, evil, and a little bloodthirsty. I like to kill things in games, even when I'm not supposed to >. And I have Necrons, because, like I said, I like to kill things in games.

I when I get board of an army I tend to start a new one, and I choose by trying to find the most under represented army.


hense why I play Dark eldar, radical DH, and Beasts of chaos.

I would love to start deamonhunters if they had a new codex and all of their models weren't metal....

I say others Cause I generally look forward to the new one if it replaces my current one (i.e. Guard).

if i see some models i rather like, i'll then get more into on the army.
If the fluff seems cool, and if the army has a playstyle i like/can pull off, then i consider it

2) A new technique. It's why I have recently chosen Blood Angels, for an assualt based army. Previously I have had mostly defence oreinted troops (A few hardkicking Hq though)

I've recently got back into 40k after spending the past couple of years reading the books and playing DH. It slowly dragged me back in and here I am, playing Orks and getting very excited about the possible rumour of an Ad Mech codex...drools

What mostly motivates me to try a new army is the models... I'll want to try to build/paint something new.

I voted for miniatures. I now started sisters of battle because of that...

For me it's primarily the miniatures. That's the absolute deciding factor. However, it can also stem from me wanting to paint something different or try a new technique.

I didn't vote for background. Good background material is nice, but the miniatures are the deciding factor. If it's the worst background I've ever read in my life, but the miniatures are AMAZING, I'll just ignore the background or make up my own.

I started off with orkz because all the fluff is awesome, but I only play casual games. Honestly, I'm looking into other armies because the one I play now is overpowering others.

I marked "Other". I generaly start a new army after I get some sortof insperation for a conversion/theme idea.
So right now, I have 4 diffrent armys floating around in my head and number crunched a dozen or so times on Army builder. I think I am set on the next army I will build(It offers me a huge wealth of converion opertunitys, since every model will have to be medium to heavly converted), but I keep going back and rerunning the numbers for a Blood Angel Army, so we will just have to see what happens.

Hmmmm... I think people are under reporting option 4. It happens a lot at the FLGS. Then we kvetch about it until they wise up.

Personally, its probably a mix of all of the above. I don't want to play with an old codex, I'd like something different to paint, the army shouldn't be gimped, etc. etc.

Mostly models and fluff. I recently started nids because I love the way the models look.

Nobody's going to admit that they collect their army because it's the newest powerlist. I think that option is under represented in the poll.

Personally, if I were to wait until the codex had been out long enough to determine that it was the new powerlist, then took the time to build and paint all the models needed to play competitively, an even newer hot codex would be waiting in the wings already when I finally got around to playing mine.

I got tired of painting White Scars and wanted to look into other colors.

I painted like 300 Khorne WFB guys in a year and a bit and got tired of red. Now, I'm starting a 40K Ork army to get some greentime in.
