I just got into BFG, first two models I got were two Demiurg bastion class cruisers from FW. Can I use Demiurg as its own army without any Tau? Also, could I ally some Demiurg with a chaos fleet? I was thinking of getting the bigger Demiurg stronghold class ship next as well. I will try to post pics of the cruisers later, I think they look great, I painted them boltgun metal, washed with badab black then thraka green and painted the raised bits of the cruiser light grey and the engines/lasers a glowy green, I think it looks pretty good.

Yes to both, though the all Demiurg fleet is difficult to pull of with the lack or lighter elements. You can use them in chaos, only Bastions (see pg 15 here: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1280012_BFG_Tau_Fleets.pdf )

a full Demiurg force would be difficult to pull of, but if I did do it I would probably go with:

2 stongholds and 4 bastion class cruisers

though I might consider just doing Ad Mech with allied Demiurg instead.
