Ok I am new to WHFB and am digging through the rule book and I cannot find a description of what magical attacks do, I am not talking about spells, a couple of my units can get magical attacks but I cannot find what magical attacks do.

Help me please I am so lost.

Magical Attacks are nearly worthless now, barely the text that they're written on.

It use to be that certain magical items gave you differing bonus' depending on whether the incoming attacks were magical or not (for instance, a 3+ Ward Save against magical attacks). Similarly, Daemons as a whole use to not get their ward saves against Magical Attacks.

While the magic item thing still exists, it's rarer now. All magic attacks do for the most part now is (beyond the benefits the weapons provide): Allow you to ignore Forest Spirit Ward Saves, allow you to hit Ethereal units.

Ok thank you, I was wondering why there were no written rules in the rule book it makes sense now.

There are certain units that are affected differently by magical attacks than normal.

Ethereal units are immune to normal attacks, not so vs magical attacks.

And the only Ethereal units I can think of off the top of my head are... Spirit Hosts, those under a certain Wood Elf spell effect, and a Vampire Character with a certain trait? IMO, Flaming Attacks have become as valuable as magic attacks once were (the number of models with Flammable has not decreased, and those with Regeneration-combinations seem to be going up).

Yet at the same time you get things like HE characters extendeding their fire immunity to their mounts
