These are all the models I've painted as of now. I've ran out of guardsman bodies, so it'll be a while until I get to reinforce.

All in all I'm quite happy with the results. Could have been much better, and it could have been somewhat worse. The colors in the pics are not entirely correct, but yes, they really are very orange. (I want my commisars to be able to see them running if they decide to desert.)

Known issues:
-Not drilled out the guns.
-black shiny ground..

Other than that, C&C appreciated greatly.

Here are s'more pics.

Nice painting, but the colours aren't my cup of tea.

If they were a little less vibrant, they would be better

Cheers,

Jack.

Thanks for the feedback, Blightdron.

For the penal legioneers, I were aiming for something like this:

Something which, thanks to hollywood, immediately screams prisoner.

Definitely. Keep up the orange, because it definitely looks better than horizontal black and white stripes!

They look cool. I would really consdiering trying to mock up explosive collars though. Get some plastic tube of appropriate diameter and cut it into rings, etc.

Also explains how a broken squad "disappears" when you pull it from the table...

Anothe rnice touch might be some manacles or leg irons made from rings as above around ankles/wrists and some fine jeweler's chain...

If the Penal Legion idea goes out the toilet, you could always make them Halloween guard.

I'm just busting your chops, they're great, all of them.

I like the 'glow' on the plasma gun, and the barrel of the flamethrower.

Just some specific feedback. Overall they look good, and I like the orange.

Ok i just had to reply to this. I am brand new to this forum but the 4rth picture down the guy with the stubble. He really needs a cigar to finish him off. Also in my humble opinion the stubble should be a bit lighter.

Thats cool. They look sort of like Star Wars Rebel pilots.

Very nice. I like the Orange coveralls, although I don't rate these guys survivability if the have to hide from anything

I agree with Skarez about the guy with the stubble needing a cigar, he looks a lot like 'The Comedian' from the 'Watchmen' novel.

I love what you've done so far. It's nice to see non-green Imperial Guard once in a while. The detail of the leader (is that your Commissar, or just a Platoon/Company Commander?) and his medals is also nice.

The only thing I would want to nitpick about is the skin tones on some of them, especially the Commander. It may just be the large amount of orange in the picture, but it looks like they've peered inside an oven for an hour (or been a little too close to an atomic blast). If it indeed does look like that in real life, you could apply a light coat or drybrush of light (maybe Elf) flesh to lighten it up a bit.

Anyways, you've done quite good so far. Hope to see more soon.

DA Consecrators- 2000 points' worth, currently shelved

Imperial Guard - about 2000 points' worth, soon to be expanded

Christmas Orks - 1750 points' worth

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

Van Grothe has a good point - they should be decidedly pale under their dirt, considering how much time they've spent indoors!

Other than that, good work - have you thought about giving them numbers on their shoulderpad and uniform? Barcode tattoos?

Thanks all for the very positive comments!

@Canonness Rory
I just have to paint thin dark vertical stripes.

@Van Grothe
Thanks for spotting that! The pics are quite representative of their actual look. The effect is slightly exaggerated in the photos, but it's defenently there in real life as well.

@unistoo
You are right they should be pale. Had not thought of that, to be honest.
About the numbers and tattoos. I'd love to have them, but I'm terrible at freehanding, and I'm not very good on fine detail, so it's doubly frustrating. If you know an easy or n00b friendly way to do it, I'm all ears.

Again. Thanks for all the feedback and positive comments.

Now I know what your legion is based on.... prisoners (only just realized) the orange seems fitting. Now I have been enlightened, the models actually look really cool!

Decals are the easy answer really, there's some pretty good info here on Dakka about making your own - you could even do the tats as well.

You could do the tattoos and jumpsuit numbers yourself (with plenty of decal softener) but you can buy plenty of number sheets in white for use on shoulderpads (obviously you can't DIY white transfers!)

They dont need to be pale.. They spent months getting yelled at and beaten in a outdoor work gang before the war started.

BTW love em.

IF you are looking for numbers to use as tattoos or suit markers, I saw on some forum (this one?) someone had effectively used the 'component number' at the bottom of the decal transfer sheets.

I love the orange by the way, and the plasma guns glow is great!

I like them, bright orange and all. Though in the UK, they give bright orange suits not to the hardest of criminals, but those sweeping roads and planting flowers for their community service orders.
