Heya all,

Fell in love with this model:

Going to use him in an Ork army, one way or another, but... well I need some interpretation here. Officially, I understand you need to have displayed the wargear that you have given them on paper (some cute acronym I totally can't remember). Now, while I don't play under official tournament rules, I still feel some Obsessive-Compulsive need to respect them.

So the question I pose is, the weapon on the model..
Counts as: Power Klaw? Or Big Choppa?

(see: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/orkwbbike.htm for more detailed pics)

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

I could go either way in truth - and as long as you inform your opponent, they'd be mad to object to such a nice model. If pressed though, I would lean very slightly in favour of a big choppa

WYSIWYG! (or What You See Is What You Get)

Personally, if you're not going to play under tournament rules I say you can have a non-standard weapon count as whatever you want (provided that particular model is allowed to actually equip said weapon). Even weapons that are normally very distinctive (Meltaguns, for instance) can count as something else so long as you let your friends know what they are ahead of time.

If you're truly a perfectionist and want to know exactly what something 'should' represent, then just have a really close look at the weapon. Power Klaws tend to be nasty, grabby, pincer-type weapons with some sort of wiring and power source driving them. Big Choppas tend to be quite a bit simpler, but while they can be just a big lump of sharpened metal on a stick, they can also have whirring blades or chainblade-type attachments as well.

To me, the weapon on that bike looks like a Big Choppa, but there's no reason it HAS to be. To me it's more important to decide how your Warboss on a Bike likes to carve up his enemies and go with that! Realistically, I doubt you would ever find an opponent who would say "that's definitely a Power Klaw" and make you change your army list.

There's no hard and fast rule about what things are supposed to look like, and with Orks I personally think you get extra leeway to be creative. Sorry that wasn't quite what you asked, but there's my two cents.

I agree it's a great looking model, by the way, I hope you post pictures once you've painted it!

WYSIWYG should only apply to drop-pod-coke-cans and the like, using standard marines to represent everything. It is a bit of a consumerist rule but it does make things alot clearer.

It shouldnt apply to Awesome-omg-waaagghh models like the one posted by the OP.

This is just my opinion.

P.s. Awesome model, btw.

Looks Like a power Klaw to me. Definitely powered. Definitely.

I can understand if people say that it looks like a big choppa, but IMO it's definitely power klaw!
That's such a beautiful model, but sadly it's from Forgeworld = very expensive + all posting costs etc.
I'd love to use him in battle! You can just hear him screaming "You humies are small and weak, we'z orks are big and strong and we're gonna chop you up good!"

If you show up with that model and an army list that shows you spent the points, then I would say it can be a choppa or claw depending on the points spent. Just stay consistent with what you designate it as.

I plan on buying the model and running it as Wazzdakka Gutsmek, in which case it will be used as a power claw.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Likewise with the circular-cybork-saw and pneumatic-pick-arm from the Nobs box, I'd be fine with either. Make it clear, and it's clear. 40K isn't a hide-your-army-list kind of game.

It'd be a pretty sad thing if that model was stuck with taking a worthless big choppa.

ork killa kans and dreads can have a buzz saw arm for a klaw, so this is obviously a powerklaw.

QFT - there's a lot of precedent with ork power klaws and ork walkers DDCW being modeled as buzzsaws. In fact the Deth kopta has an option to take a buzzsaw which counts as a power klaw.

I run my FW warboss on bike as having a pk.

Powerklaw. It's clearly designed to be used in one hand; I don't even know how you'd go about using it in two. You'd have to put one hand on top of your other hand or something.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I also have two of this model, I use one as warboss with powerklaw, and the other is converted to wazdakka with powerklaw too.

It's definitely a Powerklaw, I think the box of five nobs also comes with one powerklaw like that.

Thank you all for the enthusiastic responses!

I realize in hindsight a poll might have been a decent idea heh, but oh well, I think I get the idea. As long as I'm clear, actually talk to my opponent, and not fool around with what it is, I'm safe.

And just so we're clear, intending to use it as a Power Klaw, I mean, really, ripping around the battlefield on a overcharged, jet-engined mekaniks monstrosity, carving up the enemy with a massive blade spinning just at the end of your arm?

Besides, now I can have it painted black (with metal bits at the edges to show its worn away from use) and call him Blackclaw (Until I tried to re-login and discovered this login name I'd forgotten it lol)

Thanks all!
Cheers,
Z
