I just recently finished this as an exercise with my airbrush.
the only thing done the old fashioned way is the lines on the warrior skulls, the eyes/noses of the burning skulls, and touchup on the nightbringer's stomach.

Advice always appreciated.

The portal inside was not glued inside, sorry. I wanted maximum surface area so I could practice various techniques.
When people ask for tutorials and such, on what part. the fire the heads what. Frankly this thing took over 80hrs to paint(being my first time and im not painting another one) But as stated it was practice for various techniques on a "canvas" that was easier than my typical tau tanks(read flatter and bigger)

Ive started an airbrush guide/tutorial but I need some direction to focus what I bother to make up subtutorials on.

I would appreciate a tut on how you go about highlighting and the glowing effects.

That's really impressive. It looks like it's made of glowsticks. I do enjoy seeing a new take on tired models.

The "Real" flames at the bottom are nearly perfect. I'm seeing a lot of stencil work, that said, your technique is pretty much spot on. I'm curious if you used any of the Craig Frasier line or did you make your own?

Another question is: What kind of Gun and Paint were you using? I find vallejo cut with windex sprays pretty well but I'm always curious to what other artists use.

Very very nice. Kinda makes me feel bad about my airbrushed tank lol. Then again I've only had my airbrush a week or two. I used the GW paints with rubbing alcohol and wasn't impressed. I ordered some Vallejo game color Sunday so hopefully their here soon.

Is their anything about Windex that makes it better as a paint thinner? I was afraid the color in Windex might alter the paint. I figured rubbing alcohol would be do the same thing. Might have to try the Windex though.

It is very surreal. The colors are so bright that it almost looks photoshoped. So I have to give you real props.

I will be getting a airbrush soon. But I am a beginner. Any tips on what to buy? I don't want something too elementary that I can't grow with it. But at the same time I don't want something too complex either.

This was mostly painted with GW and reaper paints cut with windex. Some createx was used for the green and violet but the rest was GW and reaper.
I made all my stencils because trying to find stencils at this scale is maddening.

Stencils were designed and used to get the warrior head sillouets, the eclipse circle, the flame edges, the lightning, the cloud edges, and the pulsed power rods. I spent a lot of time and research designing stencils for this. Except the flame stencils. those I photo reduced.

And I wrote an airbrushing tutorial that is now posted in the painting guide section. Refer to that for general questions about airbrushes, paints, flow, stencils etc.
I will be expanding it as time, projects, daughter, and attention span permits

As this is the most recent thing ive painted it will outshine the rest of my army.
But hopefully the standards for my army will rise as a result. Im working on a skyray thats turning out a little better than I thought it would. The monolith is so much easier to paint (whine)

Ive loaded most of my army into the gallery so you can see this is by far the best ive done so far.

That's a whole bunch of not bad. I guess if you like you models to look all unique and good n stuff. Who wants that though.
