Can anyone tell me if i can use scout marine models as regular space marines? (count them as tac squads with all the perks of the power armoured marines, with the look of the scouts) It will require lots of customising (storm bolter gunners, land speeder and attack bike drivers, heavy weapon marines, etc.) but i just love the scout model and i feel it's worth it to have such a unique look to my army. Since it's an asthetic thing, i'm hoping it's legal in-game cause i think it would look kick ass and it, as far as i know, dosin't mess with the game or the rules. As i said, it's purely for asthetic purposes...

Not sure if I can help you here.
Keep in mind that Marines have power armor while Scouts have carapace armor.

Well, it wouldn't be WYSIWYG in terms of armor. If you had the weapons correct, and you didn't use any real scouts, it might work.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

you would just have to have it be a "count as" army, could totally work

The only issue I would see is if you also tried to have "actual" scout marines in your army, in addition to the "looks-like-scout-but-is-actually-power-armor" marines. That would cause a real WYSIWYG problem, IMO, because your opponent would have a hard time telling one from the other.

Awesome feedback...it gives me another idea...how about i use power armour torsoes to A- make em more "space mariney" and B- to remove some of the confusion. As i said before it's purely asthetic...they will have all the weapons/wargear of their power armoured counterparts. However i see your points that it may cause confusion due to the carapace armour. So what do you guys think about using the regular marine torsoes? (using scout legs, heads, and arms) It would be better as far as WYSIWYG goes, and it would make converting them much easier.

The armor has to be correct, If you play any tournaments. How about Black Templar army. You can mix armor. Each unit must have more marines than Scout armor (Neophytes). You must stick to WYSIWYG.
In my army my Chaplain has OLD terminator armor, with a real cool tech-skull face. Others have no problem downgrading term armor for fancy power armor.

Yes, there is a rule in the book that says that you can use a "counts as" army. For clarity (I'm too lazy to scour the rulebook for an exact quote) you may use scouts to represent regular marines so long as you do not have any actual scouts in your army list. You would probably encounter less criticism if you swapped the torso and other bits to make them better represent marines. Otherwise, so long as it looked cool and nobody wants to be a prick about it, you should be good to go. I once built a Chaos Obliterator completely from bits parts (my first army) and no one complained, they all thought it was cool.

Right on guys, thx alot. I had a pretty good idea this army would be somewhat contrevercial, and i appreciate all the feedback...i have one last attempt wich is the easiest one, and the one that will be the least amount of modification (if any).....regular power armour marines, with scout heads. The helmetless heads with ear peices is cool enough, and i can more than live with that, because it still looks cool, and with my amount of conversion expertise (wich, btw, is none lol) i can easilly put this togeather. And as far as i know, this is fine as far as the rules go, and i don't think it would cause any complaints. I also want to go without backpacks to cut down on the overall bulkyness of my marines (heavy weapon & assault marines excluded of course), and i'd love to get feedback on that. I should have thought of this before, but i'm the kind of guy that shoots for the moon on the first try instead of starting off simple, so yeah...lol Thanks again for the help and i'll see you on the battlefield.
FOR THE EMPEROR!

Give them like chainmail armor overtop or extra carapace armor or something. Enclosed helmets etc.

I'm actually going with a helmetless army...using scout marine heads...the chainmail is an interresting idea though. Not sure what you mean by extra carapace armour, i'm brand new to the 40k universe and i have no conversion talent yet...i was thinking of having someone like blue table painting to make my army as i've little time in my day for DIY. But thanks for the suggestions, any and all advice is appreciated.
